Wrestling Maneuvers In a Teaching Progression

Filed under: Wrestling — Author @ 10:48 am

A. START: QUARTER NELSON POSITION. A is on his hands and knees in the defensive referee’s position. B is on his knees to the left of A, opposite A’s left shoulder. B’s left hand is hooked over A’s head, with his right arm under A’s left arm and his right hand hooked over his own left wrist. B pulls down and in on A’s head. B increases the leverage by forcing his right elbow up and into A’s left side.

B. LOCK ARM. A locks his left arm around B’s right arm above the elbow, pulling the arm down into his groin. At the same time A raises his head backward and looks over his right shoulder. This causes B’s hand to slip down the head to the neck, thus reducing the leverage applied by B.

Boxing Training: Boxing a Southpaw

It is generally agreed that a southpaw has a distinct advantage in a three-round amateur bout. The reason is simple. A southpaw is accustomed to boxing a right-hander, whereas most right-handers are unfamiliar with southpaw tactics.

Normally southpaws are strictly left-handed punchers, and use their right hand merely to offset the right-hander’s extended left hand. It is for this reason that, when we get a southpaw on our squad, we immediately teach him how to deliver a right jab and a right hook. The right hook is very effective as an offensive punch; also as a counter-punch thrown immediately after a short hop-back. A southpaw who uses his right hand efficiently along with his normally effective left hand is hard to beat.

Karate Secrets and the Knife Hand

Filed under: Martial Arts — Author @ 7:03 am

This sounds like a misnomer, since no knife is used, but your opponent will swear that razor-sharp cutlery was employed, that is, after he recovers! The Knife Hand can be used in two ways, both extremely painful: The downward chop and the side chop. The downward chop is formed by crooking the arm at the elbow and swinging it down obliquely in a swift, slashing, hammer-like motion. Be sure to keep the fingers rigid and close together. Learn to strike fast. The downward Knife Hand is especially effective on the forearm, the neck, the ribs. It can cause your opponent stinging, excruciating pain. The second variation is the side chop. It is formed by swinging the hand out in a semi-circle from the elbow. The palm should be kept rigid. (See Fig. 6)

Want Baseball Training Tips & Tricks? These Little-Known Secrets Will Have Your Youngster Hitting The Longest Yard Over The Boundary Fence!

Filed under: Baseball — Author @ 5:48 am

Of all the baseball skills, running the bases is the simplest to master. Yet, its teaching and practice is often sorely neglected among amateurs.

As with many other aspects of baseball, the situation that develops after the ball is hit tells the runner what to do. If, for example, he is trying to beat out an infield roller, the runner’s only concern is to get to 1st ahead of the throw. If the ball goes through the infield for a single, the runner wants to make a turn at the base. If the batter drives a pitch over the outfielder’s head for a sure double he uses one running pattern; if it’s a triple, he uses another. And if it looks like an inside-the-park homer, he might use still a different pattern.

Here are the techniques involved, starting with the attempt to beat a throw to 1st.

As the right hand batter hits the ball, his weight is on his front foot. To get started to 1st, he should drive off that foot, taking the first step with the right.

The left-hand hitter’s weight is also on his front foot. He can usually cross over with his left to start toward 1st.

Kayaking Equipment For Outdoor People

Filed under: Articles about Sports, Rowing, Sports — Author @ 1:25 am

What do you prefer to do on your time off? I think we all have certain activities in mind for our weekends and vacation days. For me this free time involves relaxing with my family. Maybe we’ll go see a movie, hit up the local Aquarium, venture off on a camping trip, or even just hang out around the house. The important thing is we’re together. I was just chatting with my brother and he was going on and on about kayaking. He and his wife love to do this. They invested in some pretty fancy kayak equipment a couple years back; therefore they enjoy tackling the rough waters. Maybe kayaking is an activity suited for your free time.

Common Faults - Grip When Golfing

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Golf, Outdoors, Sports on TV — Author @ 10:46 am

An all-finger grip and getting the left hand on top, so that four knuckles show,
go together. It’s almost impossible to hold the club entirely in the fingers of
the left, without getting the left on top of the shaft.

When dropping the right hand lower and lower, some people feel they will get
more power.

Well, they are all wrong and they go a long way toward
ruining what might be a good shot. When the club is held entirely in the fingers
of the left hand and that hand is on top of the shaft with three or four
knuckles showing, there is an overpowering tendency to roll that hand over to
the left as the club comes into the ball at impact. When this happens the face
of the club is turned over and closed, or hooded. The result is a bad smother or
hook. That is what happens with some players.

How Can You Learn The Correct Golf Swing?

Filed under: Golf — Author @ 6:04 am

The basics of any game are the most important things one needs to learn when you start playing that game. In golf too you will need to be extremely well acquainted with its basics before you can think of any improvement to the game you play. Golf is one of the few games which look the simplest while it is in reality extremely complex.

What is the right golf swing plane?

In golf everything revolves around the actual swing. Your score, your game, and everything else is based on how well you know your swing. The swing has a great number of techniques and aspects. One such critical aspect is the correct golf swing plane. What is this plane we are talking about here? The plane means the trajectory the ball does after it is hit by the club. The correct golf swing plane will be the trajectory that runs parallel to the ground, made by the ball after it is hit by you.

This is a difficult task for most golf players and in order to improve on the correct golf swing plane, you will need to have a trainer who will tell when and where to hit to get the right path. There are other ways too. One is to use a video camera and film you and then play back and check on the trajectory left by the ball. Another method is to use a club with a laser light; the light will help you understand what should be the correct golf swing and act accordingly.

Getting More Into the Swing

Filed under: Golf — Author @ 11:32 pm

The next step is to incorporate the early wrist break into the swing itself, making it a single uninterrupted motion. For this we must start with what has come to be known as the forward press, for it is with this that the backswing begins. The forward press is simply a device that gets us from the passive into the active stage smoothly, without a jerk. Standing in a stationary position, even for a few seconds, is tiring. Ask any service man who has stood at attention for any extended period. We don’t pass easily from a stationary position into a big move. The trick in golf is to go from the stationary position of address to the big movement of the backswing without a jerky effort. The forward press provides this transition. It is the little move that leads into the big one.

It can be done in several ways, with the right knee, with the hips, with the hands, with a turn of the hips. We want a lateral movement of the hips, no turn. It is a slight pushing of the hips to the left, laterally, about an inch or two. This press is in the opposite direction from the big move. But as the hips come back from their little pushing motion, they keep right on sliding and go into a lateral turning motion to the right-the beginning of the backswing-and we are off. This makes for the smoothest transition of all. As the hips move to the left in the press, they pull the hands with them, just slightly, only a, fraction of an inch. When the hips come back, the hands come back-Now, as the hips and hands come back from the press, push the heel of the right hand down firmly but not sharply on the left thumb. The back of the left hand starts to turn under-and the all-important backward wrist break has begun (Fig. 16).

new golf swing

This move should not be a sharp or a violent action. It should be firm and steady. And it feels much quicker than it looks or actually is.

Martial Arts and Bullying

Filed under: Martial Arts, Sports — Author @ 5:22 pm

When we do classes and seminars on bullying, we feel that it’s important to let people know who bullies really are and what makes them tick. There is so much more to being a bully than simply being mean to someone else.

Who is a bully? First of all, people who bully are often people who have (often secretly) low self-esteem and they turn to bullying to hide their perceived inadequacies. They do this by pointing out inadequacies in other people and trying to get people to fear them.

Bullies often also look for ways to avoid responsibility for their actions or have simply never been taught that there are consequences to certain actions. Often times they are clever enough to avoid being caught by anyone who might force them to face the consequences.

Baseball Training | The Stride

Filed under: Baseball — Author @ 9:16 am

As the ball is being delivered to the plate, the batter should raise his front foot just above the ground and slide it forward (toward pitcher) about six inches. This step, a critical part of hitting, begins what is generally termed “timing”. All other movements that are a part of batting flow from it.

Fig. 1 Fig. 2 As Indicated at left, batter’s body should face pitcher slightly, with toe of front foot about in line with instep of rear foot. Middle of body should also be about opposite tail end of plate. Batter’s hips and shoulders should always be level, as shown in sketch at right

To learn and practice The Stride, beginners should first take the stance just described and place hands on hips. Then, simply step forward. And back. Forward. And back. Forward. And back.

Now, well begin to build on the timing cycle. As the front foot comes down, the batter is to rotate the trunk toward the pitcher. From the hips up, he twists the body sharply and as far as it will go.

Golf Handicap: Allowing Golfers To Compete On Equal Terms

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Golf, Sports — Author @ 6:15 pm

Amateur golfers with different levels of ability compete against one another on equal terms by measuring their level of ability and calculating their golf handicap. A golf handicap is measured in number of strokes and is used to calculate a net score by subtracting the handicap from the number of actual strokes.

Pro golfers play “head to head” and don’t get the benefit of a handicap in competition, but national golfing associations have developed standard formulas for calculating an amateur golfer’s handicap to give all players a more equal chance to win, and thereby promote the game.

Free Power-Packed Information Book Detailing Everything There Is To Know About Ski Mountaineering And Ski Vactions

Equipment must be kept to the lightest weight consistent with reasonable durability and adequate protection against emergencies. A light pack makes a trip more pleasant and control of skiing more certain. Even the robust man, who could easily carry much more, should always have as light a pack as possible, to maintain reserve energy for emergencies and a reserve of carrying power in case of injury or fatigue of any other member of the party. He should further consider that if he is injured, the party must carry his pack—or discard some of it.

The equipment is divided into that which is (1) worn, (2) carried in the pack, (3) included for community use, and (4) necessary for difficult climbing on rock and ice. The equipment listed first in each of the divisions is the minimum requirement for a tour of at least one night on the snow, with possibility of blizzard and temperatures down to —30° F; “optional” equipment can be added as desired. The community equipment is based on a four-man party. Variation in the number in the party using the community and climbing equipment, as well as the type of expedition, would require some changes in the items suggested. Supplementary discussion is included in the chapters on Warmth and Shelter. Refer also to the Check List of Equipment on pages 221 and 224.

Long Lost Manuscript Uncovers The Best Football Training Drills And Strategies Of All Time

Filed under: Football — Author @ 7:02 am

I shall discuss the art of throwing a football under three main headings: the grip, delivery of the ball, and setting up to pass. Grip and delivery are the mechanics of actually throwing the ball—of getting it up into the air. Setting up to pass, on the other hand, refers to getting into position to throw the ball; and these fundamental movements (which must become fully automatic for the passer) are part and parcel of the various pass plays.

The mechanics of throwing the ball must obviously become second nature to the passer if he is going to develop any skill in throwing the ball. No amount of instruction on my part can do that for him—only practice, practice, and yet more practice in throwing countless passes of all kinds will enable him to master the art, regardless of whatever natural ability he may have.

To pass, you have to hold the ball, and it is no secret that the forward pass has to start with the passer’s grip. Although there probably are many methods of gripping the ball, I will discuss only three of the more popular grips. They are the three types of grip that I have observed to be the most widely used in analyzing the different techniques employed by passers on all levels of play—high school, college, and professional. These three types are the overhand grip, the thumb grip, and the palm grip. Each has its particular features which may be preferable for one reason or another. If you can master the one that is most suitable for you, then you won’t have to bother much about the others.

Free Online Ebook Reveals How To Teach Youngsters To Use A Little League Baseball Bat In 5 Easy Steps

Filed under: Baseball — Author @ 6:30 am

The safety factor is an important one at all levels of baseball, but it is particularly necessary with beginners. It should not be overlooked at any stage of Little League activity, whether in spring training, tryouts, practice sessions, or games. Coaches and managers might like to post the following list of precautions in a dugout, clubhouse, or dressing room:

1. Have an adult at the field at least a half hour in advance of the scheduled activity to control the group until the start of organized activity.

2. Check the field for obstacles—holes in outfield, stones, a hole in front of pitching rubber, etc.

3. Have the adult space the youngsters who are warming up so that other groups are not endangered by wild throws and muffed catches. The throwing should be parallel.

4. Unless the area is unusually large, have the adult keep the boys from participating in batting practice until the regular workouts begin. Pepper games can be organized if the players are spaced properly, with groups bat ting the ball parallel to each other. There should be no more than four players in each pepper game.

5. Have boys bring a jacket or sweater to wear during warm-up and after workout.

Discover The Little Known Skiing Lessons Guaranteed To Have You Skiing Like A Pro In No Time!

Filed under: Ski — Author @ 6:11 am

The basic position for the snow plough turn is the snow plough’ position which must be held throughout the complete turn. The centre of gravity of the body during the entire figure remains constant between the skis. Now do not do anything more than is asked of you. First, a turn to the right. Snow plough position=basic position. The skis begin to slide. Now you move the left shoulder, the left knee and the left ski with a slight forward pressure. The centre of gravity is between the skis, the body is held erect and the turn to the right begins. Now repeat the performance to the left: right shoulder, right knee and right ski with slight forward pressure and, as you will notice, you will begin to travel to the left. The centre of gravity is always between the skis and you must never forget this. So, continue to travel in alternate turns. When the right shoulder goes forward the left shoulder recedes and vice versa. Now look back and see your fine snow plough tracks. You are delighted to find how easy it is and how successful you have been. Now go to a somewhat steeper slope where you can practise it for yourself.

Now! There Is a Way To Coach Basketball Team To The Top Of The Ladder With These Surefire Secrets

Filed under: Basketball — Author @ 6:07 am

The fundamentals of offensive basketball can be listed by all coaches. High school players can list them. They have been enumerated and well defined for a long period of time. If coaches were asked to list the fundamentals of defense, they would all give different answers. Defensive fundamentals are rather vague and nebulous. Required skills vary from team to team and from coach to coach. Surely it is time we accepted a given list of fundamentals so that they may be defined and taught in a more precise and exact manner.

We are going to list eight defensive fundamentals. They are not necessarily the only ones and this is not necessarily the only way defensive fundamentals could be listed. Still, we are going to approach them in a positive manner because no accepted list of defensive fundamentals can be found. If each basketball coach begins to think about breaking defensive play down into the various fundamentals, we will certainly come up with an accepted set of fundamentals more quickly.

There is the camping ground that offers you electricity and running water, as well as a main office in case of an emergency. These areas have life guards and you are sure to meet many different kinds of people and personalities. These places have rules that need to be followed, and also cost about $12.00 a day to be able to camp there. The best benefit is that all of the area is fully maintained, and the beach area not only serves for fishing, but it also serves as a great area for swimming as well.

Camping in Alaska

Filed under: Outdoors — Author @ 9:11 am

Our trip was based out of Anchorage Alaska, but we were only there for a few days. We got our camping equipment in Anchorage and then set off for more remote reaches of the Coast. Because it was our first time camping in Alaska, we agreed to stay in the coastal areas. It was the summer, after all, and the Alaskan coast can be downright mild and pleasant. Although we did not see a lot of darkness, we had brought sleeping shades so we were okay. This is one of the things that I can’t recommend enough if you’re going to go camping in Alaska. Pay attention to what time of year it is. If you have not gone before, make sure that you are going camping in Alaska during the six months of light, and bring sleeping shades. Otherwise, you will not be able to sleep the whole time!

Long Lost Manuscript Resurfaces With The Well Kept Secrets Of A Judo Teacher!

If we wish to carry a heavy load somewhere, we use certain required tools or machines to economize our energy and time. For instance, if we are putting a large stone on a truck, by leaning a plane surface against the truck and making the stone roll or slide along it we can easily do the work, economizing our energy and, in the end, our time. This is taking advantage of both the law of resolution of forces and the law of friction, and if, in addition, we use a lever, we can do the work even more easily. This is taking advantage of the law of moment. We can make the stone roll or turn over to the right or left at will by taking advantage of dynamics. But how about the human body? A human body has a nervous system, so it can perceive your intention and make motions at its own will.

In competitive sports such as judo, wrestling, and boxing, the opponent does not move as you want. On the contrary, he will move in a direction inconvenient to your attack and defense. Hence it is difficult for you to throw or put him down, though you want to do so. Let us take an example. Seeing your opponent advance in a larger step than usual and about to rest his weight on the forward foot, you try to make him fall by sweeping his foot with your foot. But you will never succeed in felling him because his weight has already been put on the foot. Again, if you try to throw him by holding his waist with your arms, he will suddenly lower his waist.

It takes up more time in her life than socializing does, and yet no one makes fun of her hobby. Everyone seems to think it is natural that he prefers the company of plants to that of real people. So how come people make fun of my hobby of collecting football helmets? It really doesn’t seem fair to me. Just because my living room is filled with helmet display cases doesn’t mean that I’m any different than anyone else.
