With a deer herd topping an estimated 1.75 million animals and one of the most liberal seasons in the country, is it any wonder that hunters love this state. The Alabama deer hunting season covers 108 days annually and hunters may harvest both a buck and a doe everyday in most areas. Filed under: Archery, Outdoors, Sports — Author @ 12:46 am

When it comes to bows, you have a great deal to pick and choose from now days. Only you can decide between a recurve, long bow or compound. All are great designs, but typically we each prefer one over the others. I stand apart from my archery buddies because I like the long bow. Although it’s not Bear archery equipment, it’s stellar nonetheless. You see, when I hit the age of 18, I decided to have a long bow custom made.

Try Archery!

Filed under: Archery, Articles about Sports, Outdoors, Sports, Sports Products — Author @ 8:51 pm

There are many types of arrows you can use with your longbow and it can be confusing to know which to go for. You need to consult arrow catalogs and talk to experienced archers before buying any arrows. You get what you pay for with arrows (and longbows) so invest in something of high quality if you can afford to. The more you can spend on your arrows, the better match they will be with your bow.

Who Else Wants The Secret To Using Good Archery Equipment And Lowering Your Score?!

Filed under: Archery — Author @ 11:46 am

The bow was man’s chief weapon down through the ages until the invention of firearms. With the bow, man hunted for food and protected himself from his enemies. The great military nations of the past gained their ascendency through the ability of their archers. Over eight hundred years ago the Mongol horde was turned back into Asia by the long bow.

With the advent of firearms, the use of the bow in English warfare rapidly declined, although archery was enjoyed widely as a sport during the middle ages. The Scots today compete for a silver arrow dated 1603.

Primitive peoples of all countries except Australia have the bow and it was used as a military and a hunting weapon. The American Indian used the bow as his chief weapon, but contrary to popular belief, his skill was not as great as the writers of fiction would have us believe. Feats of which the legendary Robin Hood would have been proud are performed every day by the modern archer whose tackle and equipment has so improved in the last twenty years that records are no sooner established than they are broken. Modern archery tackle is far superior to that used by the Indians and contests between Indians and white men leave no doubt as to the superiority of the modern weapon. The Indian depended on his skill in stalking to secure game, and his kills were made at short distances. Indians of the western plains killed buffalo with the bow and arrow by riding their ponies alongside a fleeing buffalo and discharging their arrows at short range.

In fact, if you’ve never shot a bow in your life, I think it’s time you gave it a shot. No pun intended. Archery bows are not just for those who hunt deer or turkeys.

It Pays To Invest In Good Archery Products

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Archery, Articles about Sports, Outdoors, Sports — Author @ 11:42 pm

Having the right archery products is quite a crucial matter, if you are a hunter or target shooter of any kind. I have been an archer for many years, so I know what I am talking about. Before I had even tried any real archery products, I was already making my own jury-rigged bow and arrows to use in play hunting. That was a great game, let me tell you. I never did hit anything that was moving, but I got pretty good at hitting tin cans from about 12 feet away in the backyard.

When I finally got up to my first summer camp, I had my first experience of how much difference using good archery products can make. Of course, they were just standard longbows, but even still, after my twig and string contraptions, they were really a welcome addition to the sport of archery as far as I was concerned …

Make Your Own Archery Quivers

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Archery, Articles about Sports, Sports, Sports Products — Author @ 3:21 am

If you are a bow hunter, the better part of your gear is probably pretty standard. You have a compound bow, no doubt, as well as a set of arrows, cammo gear, and the works. But in my opinion, there is little room for self-expression in all of that.

That is why your archery quivers are the place where you can really show where you are to the other hunters …

The Basics of Archery

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Archery, Articles about Sports, Professional Sports — Author @ 2:12 am

Archery – The skill of shooting an Arrow using a Bow was in the bygone
ages a military weapon and also a hunting method before the invention
of gunpowder. It is mainly confined now as a competitive sport used for
target shooting.

A bow is a weapon that shoots arrows using the elasticity of the bow.
The bow is made of a strip of flexible material with a cord linking the
two ends of the strip to provide tension from which is propelled the
arrow which is a straight shaft with a sharp point on one end or have
flints and usually with feathers attached to the other end.
