How to ride a motorcycle and find where the fish are

Filed under: Cycling, Fishing, Outdoors, Sports — Terry A @ 3:31 pm

The idea of riding a motorcycle is to allow you the freedom of the open air while traveling. It can also be a very inexpensive way to travel or to commute as motorcycles get much better gas mileage than most cars. Learning how to ride a motorcycle is very important. You don’t want to be an inexperienced operator out there with so many other vehicles on the road. It comes down to learning the skills and believing in your ability to make it happen. Take it slow and easy and you’ll do just fine. After you learn how to ride a motorcycle you can even ride it to the lake.

How to find where the fish are is something a lot of newbies to fishing ask, frequently. Before you attempt to catch fish, you need to find out where they are. Fish are found nearly everywhere there is water, food, oxygen, and cover. You’re certain to be within close distance to a lake or stream that has fish in it. For a fisherperson this is good news but now you have to find the fish.

Not all fish live in the same kind of waters. Different fish tolerate different conditions better than others. Some include differing levels of salt, amounts of oxygen, amounts of food, water temperature, and hiding areas. The most distinguishing element of fish is salt. Freshwater fish don’t live in areas where there’s a lot of salt but there are some fish that need salt to survive. There are also some types of fish that can live in both saltwater and freshwater.

The only problem with motorcycles and fishing is you really need telescopic rods and lots of bungee cords to strap your cooler full of fish to the motorcycle.

South Dakota Lakes and Timeshares

Filed under: Fishing, Outdoors, Society and Sports — Terry A @ 3:20 pm

I’ve been fishing a fresh water lake, or at least going to the lake, since I was about 2 months old and I know I was fishing as soon as I could walk and demand my own pole. Lol, half of you won’t even know what this is but it was about a 10 foot long cane pole that I was given to fish with. Lot’s of adults used 15 to 20 foot cane poles for fishing back then. As much as I hate to admit it that was around 1949.

I’ve loved the fresh water lakes and fishing since I was a baby and would still rather spend time at the lake. My grandparents were ardent fisher people and so was my father. Some of the tips I know come from them, some I learned from pro fishermen or guides and others I learned on my own in Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota Lakes.

When you’re wondering where to take your family on your next great vacation - choose South Dakota. It’s a state filled with family-friendly venues for kids of all ages. What’s more, you can enjoy some of mother nature’s best gifts positioned perfectly under a great mid-western sky. When you buy South Dakota timeshares you’ll be creating a childhood filled with wonderful memories of family times together or your older like me and want to be close to the lake but not have to do all the work

Freshwater Fishing Tips

This is a freshwater fishing tips blog. Just one of many fishing blogs on the net but I hope it becomes one of the better fishing blogs on the net. For me it’s a natural to have a blog about fishing and it fits right in with this site and it’s hunting and fishing forums.

Fishing is my favorite sport. I suppose I should say fresh water fishing is my favorite outdoors sport as I don’t particularly like ocean fishing. Then again I’m not much on river fishing either. Probably because I learned to fish in freshwater lakes and that’s where I’ve done the bulk of my fishing.

I have a lot of fresh water fishing tips to come in this series on freshwater lakes, rivers and ponds.

Enhance The Taste Of Your Fish With Your Own Fishing Lures

A lure tempts and entices, and a fishing lure tempts and entices a fish. This definition might well apply to live bait, but we normally do not mean something alive when we talk about fishing lures. We mean something that acts as if it were alive, that appears alive, that creates, for the fish, an illusion. You might think that since fish have tiny brains, they is easily fooled into thinking a lure is a living, edible thing, but fish are one of the oldest creatures on earth, with a history that has sharpened their instincts, their eyes, their ability to detect the real from the false when it comes to food. They have an unconscious memory of the way their prey moves through the water, the may it moves its appendages, the way it wiggles and squirms, its normal form and face, its oils, its smell. To fool a fish with a lure is not as easy as you might think, and yet, with the right combination of elements, the bigger brain of man can create a lure that will not only fool that fish, but spark its appetite.

Many lures for specific kinds of fish can be found in the marketplace, and the most successful have been scientifically designed and tested for optimum results. Most fisherman have cases of such lures, each having been purchased at a modest price. Looking at such a collection, you immediately recognize that what attracts a fish is colorful, shaggy, winged, eyed. If you’re the inventive type, you might even think you have intelligence enough to make a lure yourself. What do you need to know, after all?

You need to know that not all fish eat the same things, that each fish has its own favorite foods. If you’re going to make a lure, make it for a specific fish. Study the fish, it’s foods, the environment of its foods, and then study the prey itself. Fishing lures are made to look and behave as the prey does. Try to be exact; don’t add another color that isn’t part of the prey just because it fits with the color scheme. A fish does not eat something out of an aesthetic appreciation. It goes for it because its color matches the color of all the other similar prey it has eaten. Something unusual alerts the fish that this is not what it is seeking.

Once you know the different preys, their appearances and behaviors, you can make your own lures with material you can easily obtain from sports stores or even in your odds and ends drawer. You can even make your lures out of such common material as corks, buttons, odorless paints, plastic beads, rubber shags, propellers, and, of course, fishing hooks.

Many fishermen avoid commercial fishing lures altogether. They look at fishing as an intricate art calling for their own creativeness and intelligence, for their own innate hunting skills which, like the fish, has a deep history of fishing, perhaps as old as a 100,000 years.

One thing is certain when using fishing lures you’ve created yourself: you’ll feel the maximum joy possible when you get that first bite on a lure you’ve crafted yourself. Somehow, you wont be able to say how, that fish will taste just a little better than all the others you’ve caught. Man over nature, with your own lure, it a seasoning like no other, aged a 100,000 years in the heart of man.

Leave Deep Sea Fishing Supply To The Experts

Have you ever been miles out at sea where you can’t even see the shoreline? If not, chances are you don’t have a lot of information on what you need for deep sea fishing supply and need a little help in this area before you set out for a day long excursion.

For deep sea fishing, supply items must be accounted for prior to leaving the shore because, once you’ve set out for the day, there’s no turning around to pick up something you forgot, and there won’t be other fishermen to ask for help for miles around. That’s why, if you are new to deep sea fishing, supply of the proper equipment should be left to a charter service, with individuals hailing the charter only responsible for personal care items, like sunscreen, cameras, and fishing licenses.

Bass Fishing Techniques Must Be Studied Closely

Filed under: Articles about Sports, Fishing, Outdoors, Sports — Tags: , — Craigs401 @ 10:18 pm

Though my husband has a lot of hobbies, bass fishing is one of his favorites. He doesn’t have a lot of time to fish lately, and it is much easier for him to golf. However, this does not mean that he will not continue to fish for the rest of his life. Though he likes all forms of fishing, bass fishing is by far his favorite. He learned a lot of bass fishing techniques from my grandfather and is always watching television shows to help him learn even more.

There is much more to bass fishing techniques than just throwing the line into the water. When I was a little girl, I used to go fishing with my grandfather. He would often set us up with a hook and bobber, and we caught whatever came up and took a bite. We caught all sorts of fish, but I’m not sure that we ever caught bass. This might be because bass fishing techniques are something that you learn, and they are not the easiest fish to catch. Sometimes you have to learn how to do it, and other times you just have to practice.

Pennsylvania Trout Fishing

The most effective technique for trout fishing in Pennsylvania is the use of a rig called a set of gang hooks. A set of gang hooks is simply two small hooks tied in tandem. This enables the angler to present live bait in a completely natural manner, especially live worms. And in the case of Pennsylvania trout fishing, these hooks work great. These hooks also work great for fishing in lakes in Pennsylvania. They get used exactly as you would normally fish a single hook, but with gang hooks there are 2 hooks. That means you can present twice as much Powerbait, cheese, corn, or whatever your favorite trout bait is.

Even if you don’t like fish, or are a vegetarian, you can still practice catch and release methods for handling fish.

Let’s Get Some Free Fishing Lures

Filed under: Articles about Sports, Fishing, Outdoors, Sports — Craigs401 @ 3:00 pm

It seems like every angler’s dream to have a never ending supply of the newest and best in fishing tackle and lures. Incredibly, there is a way for fishermen and women to get access to a variety of free fishing lures. One of the easiest and most popular ways to do this is by acting as testers and evaluators for fishing supply companies and manufacturers. Typically the free fishing lures are yours to keep, all that you have to do is keep a fishing journal when using the lures and/or submit a feedback review within a specified time period. Anglers may also be required to sign a waiver to use the free fishing lures that will allow the company to use their picture, comments or journal on websites or in advertising campaigns.

Central Iowa tourism increases as tournaments hit the area

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Athletes, Fishing — Greg Everett @ 11:44 am

The state high school tournaments are always held in the central Iowa tourism region as this is where the bulk of Iowa attractions are and is also the center of shopping in the state. Every tournament draws a different type of crowd. The wrestling tournament which just concluded brought an independent crowd, they aren’t the biggest shoppers but they do consume more food dollars per contestant than the other tournaments. Not that the contestants consume that much more it is their parents and fans that cause that increase. The next tournament scheduled to start next week is the girls state basketball tournament. This one causes an increase of clothing sales. With that many teenage girls in town and with prom being not that far off, it’s easy to see why those sales increase. The week after that the boys state basketball tournament comes to town. This crowd does increase the food sales but also seems to increase the sporting goods sales and not just things like team sports equipment. With the fishing season being on the horizon there is an increase in sales in fishing supplies too. Then next summer the soccer tournaments hit. These usually bring younger participants so the game boy related sales skyrocket.

Hawaii Shore Fishing

Filed under: Fishing, Sports — cowgrrltech @ 1:43 pm

I’m a fishing fanatic and love to fish whenever I travel. Recently I went to Hawaii on a family vacation and was planning on spending an afternoon fishing. But this was my first time to Hawaii and I had no idea where to go or what type of fishing Hawaii offers. Luckily I can across this article about Hawaii shore fishing that gave me all the details I needed to know. It told me all about dunking (which is basically ‘dunking’ your bait with weights offshore, planting your rod on shore and waiting for something to bite), what tackle to use, and other useful fishing facts. It was really helpful. If you’re planning on fishing in Hawaii for the first time, I suggest you give it a read. I found the article on a site called Dan’s Hawaii.

Using Light to Attract Fish

Filed under: Fishing, Sports — marketingtechie @ 8:46 pm

Nearly all fresh water game fish as well as saltwater fish are attracted by underwater lights.
It’s easy to demonstrate this if you have an indoor aquarium and a laser pointer.

Colored lights quickly concentrate such fresh water fish as walleyes, black bass, crappies, bluegills, northern pike, perch, stream and lake trout and practically all salt water fish including tarpon, yellowtail, striped bass, grouper, snooks, sailfish and marlin.

Okeechobee is a Seminole Indian word meaning “great water cannot see other side”. True to its name, Lake Okeechobee is 748 square miles in size. It is the greatest provider of drinking water for south Florida, averaging 13-19 feet in depth.

Lake Okeechobee is renowned internationally for its fishing for bass and other species. It is located northeast of Naples, less than 2 hours away, and is heavily ringed with tackle shops, marinas, motels, restaurants, etc. You can find rental boats, gears and lodging to make your bass fishing trip more convenient and comfortable.

Lake Okeechobee also means ‘big water’ to the Seminole Indians, it is the second largest freshwater lake in the United States after Lake Michigan and its fishing reputation matches its size.

Fly Fishing Basics

Filed under: Fishing, Outdoors, Sports — Jason Katzenback @ 7:18 am

Unlike most other methods of fishing that rely on a natural or artificial bait set or pulled at various depths under the water’s surface, fly fishing is typically done at or within a few inches of the surface. Because of this, fly fishing equipment is somewhat different that other types of casting or trolling equipment. The rods, reels, lures, and even the line, are specialized for this type of angling.

Fly fishing rods are usually quite long when compared to other types of fishing rods. They can range from approximately 6 feet to 14 or 15 feet long. The reason for this is that the rod is used to whip the line - and the attached fly - back and forth in the air to get the greatest distance while casting. A longer, more flexible rod also provides more action when reeling the catch in, giving the angler the ability to feel what the fish is doing - and to be honest - making the experience much more fun.

There are two basic types of fly fishing lures - wet flies and dry flies. Wet flies are designed to float just under the surface to emulate a bug that has recently drowned or a nymph (a young insect that has not reached maturity). Dry flies float on top of the water’s surface, and resemble dragonflies, mayflies or other insects that are resting. Dry flies are usually coated with a waterproof material to ensure that the fly does not absorb enough water to sink. Both types of flies are usually made with small hooks and very lightweight materials in order to resemble the insects of the area and to assist with flotation.

Trout Fishing - A Simple Joy

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Fishing, Sports — Jason Katzenback @ 6:49 am

Rainbow Trout can be one of the most enjoyable freshwater fishes to catch, especially if the water you are fishing on happens to be moving. Although rainbow trout can be found in most lakes, and ponds. However I think that God intended for them to be caught in the running water of a river or stream. There are a number of effective ways to catch Rainbow Trout, when you are fishing for them in the flowing waters of rivers and streams.

Your goal here is to bounce your live bait off of the bottom of the river or stream, as it is flowing naturally down the stream. To accomplish this you are going to want to tie a small barrel swivel to the end of your line. Then you are going to take a set of size 8 or 10 gang hooks and put them on your line. Now At this point you are going to want to add just enough split shot to get your bait to sink to the bottom. You should start with 2 and see what happens from there. Remember that there is always going to be some experimentation involved until you are able to determine the correct amount of weight. Now, just add a live worm to the hook, and you are all ready to go. Just cast the rig parallel to yourself, and simply let it flow naturally downstream with the current as it bounces off the bottom. You might end up getting snagged from time to time, it’s inevitable. Just remember that when this happens you’re not fishing in the right place.

Fishing And Hunting In The Great Outdoors

Filed under: Fishing, Outdoors, Sports — Jason Katzenback @ 12:14 pm

I really love the great outdoors it has so many different things to offer. I know many people will jump in saying I’d rather be at home or on the beach is their idea of outdoors but believe me unless you have tried it you can not possibly realize the wonders that await. Experiencing mother nature is definitely a hands on adventure so why not give it a go? What is important before you try it to decide which time of year would suit you best as the experience will differ dramatically depending on what season you go.

Personally my favorite time of year is Fall but the preferences of individuals will differ many prefering spring, summer or winter. Now I can hear you heat lovers saying winter you must be mad but each season has its benefits and downside I mean at least in Winter you will not have to worry about mosquitos or other little beasties! Oh yeah and the bears will be hibernating!

So what are the most common ways to experience the outdoors? Well they do vary but the main ones are hunting, fishing and camping. For all you avid hikers out there, yes there is hiking too. My personal favourites are definitely fishing and camping preferably both at the same time. There is nothing better than rolling out of your tent in the morning have a quick swim to get clean, cook some grub and make coffee over the fire (well maybe butane cooker) then grab your tackle and walk along the river to find a nice spot to settle down and wait for that monster fish!

For me it is not just about catching the fish but also about experiencing the quiet beauty of the river and the surrounding environment. It is such a relief after the crazy fast paced life of the modern world. No pollution, no traffic jams and no people! Do not get me wrong I am a real people person but it is so relaxing just sitting back on the edge of a river and letting the world go by at a nice slow peaceful pace.

Bass Fishing Techniques - A Basic Overview

Filed under: Fishing, Sports — Jason Katzenback @ 2:08 pm

When you are out bass fishing it is important to be as gentle as possible. If you are using a plastic bait you need to learn how to gentle flip the bait. Mastering this useful technique will make all the difference in the world. The easiest way to learn how to flip the bait is to take a empty coffee can and try to set the bait in the can from various distances.

This will teach you just how much effort it takes to gently place bait where it will do the most good, and this is very important. Most inexperienced bass fishermen will cast the bait, and then watch it splash down into the water. A experienced bass fisherman can cast the same bait without creating so much as a ripple on the surface of the water.

Winter Bass Fishing Techniques

Most people love to fish for bass in the spring time when the waters are warm. However, I discovered the joys of winter fishing. It is true that at this time you will not get numbers, but with the right bass fishing techniques you can catch some real beauties with half the effort you would have to put in any other season.

Catching Smallmouth Bass in Winter Waters

Catching smallmouth bass is a challenge in itself. Doing it in winter time, as many opinioned to me, doubles the odds.  However, I still maintain that I never got this amount of joy and thrill from any other fishing times.

Trout Fishing Is Fun And Exciting

One of the most exciting days for an angler to spend is a successful day of trout fishing. The lure of the elusive prey and learning to outwit this species, can be a satisfying experience and can offer excitement realize by few other fish.

Trout fishing can be exasperating, however as the fish can be elusive and seemingly contrary at times, not striking at bait you have used successfully in the past. That’s one of the frustrating experiences found when trout fishing. What works one day or in one stream or lake, may not work another day or in a different body of water.

Have Fun While You Fish with a Fishing Game

Fishing is a popular hobby among many, because it allows them to just relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. However, fishing can also get a little boring at times while waiting for a catch, so it is necessary to find things to remain entertained, and this can happen with a fishing game.

About Fishing Games

When you think about fishing games, chances are that you think of the board game. In this game, players have to wind up a little pond and have magnetic fish snap at their fishing rod. Whoever catches the most fish wins.

While a fishing game can indeed be a board game, it is also the term given to any kind of game that people make up while they are fishing.
