Using the Refiner Golf Club For a Better Golf Swing

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Golf, Outdoors, Sports Products — fredster @ 10:40 pm

Ask any serious golfer about golfing training aids, which ones they like or used or have heard about to help them to gain a better golf swing, and many times they will tell you about the Refiner golf club because the thing just plain works. My golf drives used to be all over the inbounds fairway and out of bounds areas and my golf score was none the better for it I tell you. Talk about having no confidence every time I stepped on to the golf course.

But this swing trainer from Refiner Golf, this Refiner golf club, has made all the difference in my game, self esteem, and golf score.

When I first started using the Refiner club during practice sessions, my swing was pretty jerky but with just a couple of practice swings that worked to slow down my swing and make it more deliberate and more coordinated at each point, I absolutely nailed three drives at at about the 250 yard range or so. I highly recommend this training aid. Now when someone asks me about my favorite golf training aid, I tell them about the Refiner golf club.

How Surfing Became a Sport

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Articles about Sports, Outdoors, Surfing — Tags: — surfnwho @ 3:54 pm

Surfing began when people used to lie down on hard wood boards and surf in Hawaii. Lieutenant James King who wrote journals on Captain Cook and completed them after his death set the first record. The surfboards were made out of huge and heavy wood, which were difficult to maneuver. They were substituted by lighter balsa wood surfboards in 1940s and were relatively easy to maneuver by the surfer. If you are prone to swimmers ear, wear a neoprene head bonnet so you won’t need a cure for tinnitus. The boards were later made out of polyurethane foam, polyester resin and fiberglass cloth with multiple layers of wooden strips. The latest technology in surfboards now is the epoxy or carbon fiber surfboard.

Swell is important for surfing. When the wind blows over a huge area of water, called the wind’s fetch, the water wave rises, called the swell. The stronger the wind is the more the swell. Surfers can find the perfect spot where there is a low pressure system being experienced by a large coastline. A moderate strength offshore wind can form a perfect wave without small breaks. The topography of the seabed beneath the wave also affects the wave formed.

How to ride a motorcycle and find where the fish are

Filed under: Cycling, Fishing, Outdoors, Sports — Terry A @ 3:31 pm

The idea of riding a motorcycle is to allow you the freedom of the open air while traveling. It can also be a very inexpensive way to travel or to commute as motorcycles get much better gas mileage than most cars. Learning how to ride a motorcycle is very important. You don’t want to be an inexperienced operator out there with so many other vehicles on the road. It comes down to learning the skills and believing in your ability to make it happen. Take it slow and easy and you’ll do just fine. After you learn how to ride a motorcycle you can even ride it to the lake.

How to find where the fish are is something a lot of newbies to fishing ask, frequently. Before you attempt to catch fish, you need to find out where they are. Fish are found nearly everywhere there is water, food, oxygen, and cover. You’re certain to be within close distance to a lake or stream that has fish in it. For a fisherperson this is good news but now you have to find the fish.

Not all fish live in the same kind of waters. Different fish tolerate different conditions better than others. Some include differing levels of salt, amounts of oxygen, amounts of food, water temperature, and hiding areas. The most distinguishing element of fish is salt. Freshwater fish don’t live in areas where there’s a lot of salt but there are some fish that need salt to survive. There are also some types of fish that can live in both saltwater and freshwater.

The only problem with motorcycles and fishing is you really need telescopic rods and lots of bungee cords to strap your cooler full of fish to the motorcycle.

South Dakota Lakes and Timeshares

Filed under: Fishing, Outdoors, Society and Sports — Terry A @ 3:20 pm

I’ve been fishing a fresh water lake, or at least going to the lake, since I was about 2 months old and I know I was fishing as soon as I could walk and demand my own pole. Lol, half of you won’t even know what this is but it was about a 10 foot long cane pole that I was given to fish with. Lot’s of adults used 15 to 20 foot cane poles for fishing back then. As much as I hate to admit it that was around 1949.

I’ve loved the fresh water lakes and fishing since I was a baby and would still rather spend time at the lake. My grandparents were ardent fisher people and so was my father. Some of the tips I know come from them, some I learned from pro fishermen or guides and others I learned on my own in Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota Lakes.

When you’re wondering where to take your family on your next great vacation - choose South Dakota. It’s a state filled with family-friendly venues for kids of all ages. What’s more, you can enjoy some of mother nature’s best gifts positioned perfectly under a great mid-western sky. When you buy South Dakota timeshares you’ll be creating a childhood filled with wonderful memories of family times together or your older like me and want to be close to the lake but not have to do all the work

Freshwater Fishing Tips

This is a freshwater fishing tips blog. Just one of many fishing blogs on the net but I hope it becomes one of the better fishing blogs on the net. For me it’s a natural to have a blog about fishing and it fits right in with this site and it’s hunting and fishing forums.

Fishing is my favorite sport. I suppose I should say fresh water fishing is my favorite outdoors sport as I don’t particularly like ocean fishing. Then again I’m not much on river fishing either. Probably because I learned to fish in freshwater lakes and that’s where I’ve done the bulk of my fishing.

I have a lot of fresh water fishing tips to come in this series on freshwater lakes, rivers and ponds.

I Am Such a Wimp When it Comes to Theme Park Rides

My family recently made a trip to Six Flags for a weekend outing, and it is definitely one of my children’s favorite places to go. They love the roller coasters more than anything, and the only problem is that my wife has to take them on most of the rides because I am a total wimp when it comes to theme park rides.

The first thing my son does when he gets to the park is run to the line for the highest and fastest roller coaster, and he always wants me to join him. I am trying to get onto one of the children’s rides, because the thought of being on some of the theme park rides absolutely terrifies me.

I know that they have one ride that soars around in loops and twists and hills at what appears to be an astronomical speed and then stops. Then, it starts back up again in reverse, so the riders get to take in the entire experience, but this time, they are going backwards!

My wife was the one that pointed out to me that I was really a wimp when it came to theme park rides, and she asked me why I didn’t like them. She thought roller coasters were great and really enjoyed riding them with our kids. The only problem for her is that she does not enjoy waiting in line.

I tried one day to sit down and analyze why I had such a problem with certain rides, and I think it is probably because I don’t like the feeling of being at a machine’s mercy. I never went to theme parks as a child very much, either, and the thrill of it was just never there for me the way it is for some people.

My daughter is always giving me a hard time about it, too. She said that she can’t believe that an eight-year old girl is not afraid to ride on the theme park rides, but I am. I guess she thinks that I have a complex about it, but I really don’t. I could care less if anyone thinks that I am a chicken when it comes to such matters; I am a self-professed wimp with theme park rides.

We had a great time at Six Flags that day, and my children want to go back in the very near future. Every time we talk about it, they are constantly trying to get me to go on one of the roller coasters, and I always tell them that it will never happen. They insist that I will have fun, but there is no way that I will ever do it, and nobody will ever make me!

Running Tips for when you Encounter Over-Training

For high school athlete Mark Ericson, his running season went great up until spring this year. His training for the past year was relentless and it seemed like it was paying off. Each day that he ran, he was shaving a hundredth of a second off his time. But not long after, at the beginning of spring track, everything seemed to go off-track. Each time he ran the thousand-meter course, he seemed to add about 5 seconds to his time. He seemed to be getting slower with each training round. His coach began to look deeper into the problem; the boy didn’t need any running tips - he was an expert himself. And yet, here he was getting slower by the day, irritable, his muscles numb all the time. His coach had read about something like this - it was called overtraining. It is the thing that every athlete dreads. Is there are a limit to how much you can train your body - is there a limit to how much you can push yourself?

Overtraining is something you’ll rarely read about in any list of running tips you come by. If it is rare, it is only because the kind of commitment it takes to reach a state of overtraining is something most people find to be too much. It is actually a real physical ailment. If you overstress your body for too long, it fights back. It fights back with aches and pains, tiredness and psychological detachment. As rare as the condition is, people are beginning to take notice of this, and it’s becoming somewhat a fashionable ailment to suffer from. These days, people read about overtraining in a section on running tips in the magazine, and the moment they have a problem with their performance, they begin to complain of overtraining.

This isn’t the way it’s supposed to go. To begin with, overtraining is terribly rare - even for athletes. If you are running maybe 25 miles a week and you feel that you have a problem, you probably need to look into other causes. The body is perfectly capable of handling 25 miles a week. When you try to double that or maybe triple that, and then feel dead inside doing 80 miles a week, that’s when you might need to consider the possibility that you could be overtraining.

There is an important reason why you can’t just go about jumping to the conclusion every so often that you could have a case of overtraining on your hands. When you are in this position, there is really no way out of it other than to quit training for months. What athlete would want to do that - it would probably take him out of running forever. So how really do you know that yours is a case of genuine overtraining? As a matter of fact, overtraining is a poorly understood condition. It isn’t just a slowness or sense of exhaustion that signals this. The first thing you notice is that your heart rate is a lot faster than it should be when you’re resting normallly, or with moderate levels of work. And athletes also find that they feel weaker, and they can’t really walk with the kind of muscle-coordinated confidence they always had. The best running tips always suggest that you need to push yourself as an athlete as far as your body will go - without going too far. It’s when an athlete goes over the line without realizing it, that this happens. You’re supposed to train just a bit past your real abilities to qualify as having pushed yourself. When you train more than just a touch above your ability though, your body throws in the towel.

Olympic coaches are exquisitely aware of overtraining and know exactly how to hit the mark. Not long ago, the best of athletic wisdom out there felt that it was the sheer hours of training you put into your sport that helped you improve. Now coaches understand that there is a point beyond which a lot of training doesn’t really help you that much, and only puts you in danger of overtraining. When it occurs, the signs are there for all to see - when an athlete seems to gain very little for crazy hours of training he puts in, that’s a sign. An athlete who isn’t pumping his fist and beaming with self-confidence after a training session is another sign. If an athlete is just exhausted all the time, it’s time to stop. It’s just that athletes completely give themselves over to the sport and never know when to stop.

Sports medicine specialists would be a great idea when you suspect a problem. Sometimes they’ll give you blood tests to test for certain kinds of chemicals known as Ferritins that appear at very low levels in people who overtrain. With the right kind of supplements, it could help cure the problem. But mostly, the advice will be simple and unpleasant - it’s three months off the sport. It will be for the athlete’s own good, and it always works.

Quail Hunting

Practice now if you hunted quail in November, because in the summer you know how to do it

That’s just the way it seems to be with everything. You do something new, even if you’ve studied and practiced, you do something you knew nothing about until you do it. That’s the way it is with quail hunting. All those mistakes you made, your clumsiness with your gear, your shotgun not responding to your quick movements, the dog flushing them out before you’re even ready (hey, you’re hunting, you should always be ready). Now it’s summer and you’re planning to go quail hunting next season.

While you’re planning it, get over to the skeet range and practice. Quail, as you know, are ground dwellers. They leap. They’re quiet. They only leave impressions in the grass where they sat. You might see their tracks, which means you’re in the right area. You wont be tracking them. That’s partly the job of a good hunting dog.

When you got yours on the quail hunting trip to Texas, the quail came down from the sky in a flock. It was easy pickings then. The dog didn’t have to do much work. You took down a couple with just a single shot. It’s best when they come in a flock, isn’t it?

Not sure if you’ll be able to make it to Texas for the next quail hunting season? The trip was much longer than you thought, but Texas is by far the state with the largest quail population in the United States. They’ve got the bobwhite and the blue quail there (check out they pheasants and prairie chicken at the same time). Every year the population just increases. You went there at the end of October, but you can quail hunt until February. You do have to pay for the permit and a game bird stamp, and the two are a bit high, what with the economy the way it is now-a-days. That’s why you will want to practice your hunting skills now, so that permit costs turns out to be worth your while.

You don’t have to go to Texas for quail if you live in the heartlands. In Oklahoma bobwhites are increasing. The licenses is a forth that of Texas, its legacy permit a couple of dollars less than Texas’ game bird stamp. You’re just in the right place if you’re close to Black Kettle or Packsaddle. Kansas resident are in a quail state too, with bobwhites and blue quail. If the weather is good between November and January, expect to find them around Pratt Sandhills and Glen Elder. The license costs a quarter less than in Texas. You’re in the right place if you’re in Missouri, because they’ve got bobwhites at Whetstone Creek near Columbia and by the Lamine River near Otterville. The forecast have been good for the season, November through January, and the annual license is a quarter the amount for Texas. Nebraska also boast of bobwhites. For a license a third that of Texas’ they got quail over at Osage near Tecumseh and Near Malcomb at Branched Oak Lake.

The south has its quail states too: Florida. Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Kentucky. All of them have bobwhites with seasons generally between November to February, with stable or increasing population.

Even in the southwest you can go quail hunting, there in Arizona, New Mexico, and California. They’ve got blues and bobwhites, good forecasts for populations, but licenses cost nearly as much as one for Texas.

No, you don’t need to go to Texas for the thrill of quail hunting, but if you’re going to get anything, no matter what state, practice, when you finally know how to do it.

Jogging accessories that will make your exercise routine more enjoyable

Jogging is an increasingly popular sport as people around the country are trying to get in shape. Jogging is something that you can do almost anywhere, and any time. In addition, you don’t need any expensive equipment to get started. All you need is yourself, some determination, and a decent pair of jogging shoes. However, if you have been running seriously, or you just like to invest in the newest gadgets, there are a number of jogging accessories you can try out. Jogging accessories fall all across the spectrum of jogging gear. They might include different types of clothing, or electronic gadgets.

One of the more useful jogging accessories is a stopwatch. You can purchase a specialized stopwatch, or see if you can find a regular watch, or even a phone that has this feature. A stopwatch can be used to time your over all running time to see whether you are increasing your running speeds. It can also be used for interval training. For example, you can set your stopwatch to beep at twenty second intervals. Sprint for twenty seconds, then walk for twenty seconds, then jog for twenty seconds, and then start all over again.

Another of the more popular jogging accessories is a pedometer. A pedometer is a device that can tell you how many steps you’ve taken. This can be useful in ensuring that you’ve done the required amount of steps in a day. For example, you might have a target of 10,000 steps per day in order to promote weight loss or general toning. Using a pedometer, you can see whether you’re on track to meet this target. If not, you’ll know how much more work needs to be done so that you can catch up!

Sports towels are one of those jogging accessories that no one should be without. This is definitely the case if you’re prone to sweating. Sports towels are specially designed towels that are both small and ultra absorbent. They’re easy to carry around in your workout bag, or even on your person or in your pocket. You can use them to wipe yourself down after a run or a workout, or to wipe your face if you find that you’re working up a sweat while you run.

Other useful jogging accessories are mobile phone and iPod arm bands. These arm bands strap around your arm. They have a pocket to keep your mobile phone and your iPod secure while you run. This means that you won’t have to hold these items in your hands. You’ll find that your jog is more comfortable as a result, and you won’t have to worry about dropping these expensive items when running.

One final type of jogging accessory you might want to try is the humble sweatband. Sure, they look silly, but they’re very effective. You can put sweatbands on your hands or around your forehead. The idea is that they soak up any sweat that you generate in these areas, making your run more enjoyable.

Safe Jogging Tips

Losing weight and staying in shape are both reasons why people jog. Those that play a sport on a regular basis find that jogging is a great way to stay in shape and keep their endurance up to a competitive level. Jogging can also be therapeutic and some that do it only for that very reason. No matter what your reason, you should always think about safe jogging tips when you go out for a run. You can never be too safe. If you go with your children, or with friends or spouse, teach them what you know about staying safe as well.

The first safe jogging tips you should think about are where and when you are going to jog. The where is important as not all places are safe. Many like to jog around their own neighborhood, which is fine, but if you jog on the street you may get hit by a car that can not see you coming, especially if you jog at night or in the early morning hours. Always be alert, keep music turned down so that you can hear everything around you, and wear bright, reflective clothing of some type so that you can be easily spotted. It can be harder for car drivers to see you than you think.

Safe jogging tips also include finding somewhere else to jog if you do not live where you feel safe after dark. In most cases, no one is going to bother you just because you are running, but you may get in the middle of something by mistake. It’s like being in the wrong place at the wrong time. See if you can go in another direction when you start out on your jog, or if there are some indoor places where you can run. Some communities open up gyms and other large areas for joggers to keep them safe when jogging outside may not be the best idea.

The weather is something else to think about when you consider safe jogging tips. You may think that you are warm enough while running to go out in shorts and a tee shirt when it is only twenty degrees out, but you could be making a big mistake. Your body heat will be high from running, but you still have to do something to cover exposed skin. No matter how warm you feel, exposed skin while jogging can get chapped and even frost bitten if you are not careful. Find somewhere inside to jog in cold weather or find light clothing to cover your entire body before you venture out.

Lastly, think about your physical well being. You can not stay safe and fit if you are going to hurt yourself while jogging. Almost anyone can jog, but those with a lot of weight to lose that have been sitting around for two years are not going to get very far when they start out. Safe jogging tips would suggest that you see a doctor before you start jogging after a period of inactivity. You may even want to start out walking, then power walking, and then running short distances to work your way up to jogging to make sure your body adjusts well.

Florida Diving Trips To The Atlantic Coast

Thousands of scuba open water divers visit Florida on a Florida diving holiday due to the huge variety of diving sites you can find on the Florida coastline.

Florida has more coast line than any other state in the USA and with its southern location provides plenty of areas to scuba dive in clear and warm waters.

First, let’s look at the Atlantic coast. Up and down this coast line are 3 lines of reefs, outer reef, middle reef and inner reef providing some of the most excellent scuba dive sites from Jupiter, just north of West Palm Beach, all the way down to Key West.

Another unique highlight along the Atlantic coastline is the current provided by The Gulf Stream which meanders up north along the coastline before diverting out east and into the Atlantic.

One of the reasons for the healthy coral reefs is this steady stream of water chock-full with nutrients that provides both food and clear warm water to the marine bio system.

Many travelling to Florida diving for the first time are surprised at the range and diversity of diving sites available.

Florida Diving Sites: Jupiter-Miami

Starting at Jupiter and working your way down south along the coastline you will find an marvelous span of reefs and shipwrecks to investigate with some dive sites like Governor’s River Walk Reef having well known ships such as the St. Jacques which is one of three shipwrecks at this dive site.

Inexperienced Florida diving enthusiasts will find a range of gorgeous reefs in West Palm Beach. Reefs such as Breakers Reef covered in marine life.

Driving south towards Miami you reach Ft. Laud. America’s answer to Venice, this is a scenic place providing a great base for any Florida diving trip.

As you travel along the coast you recognize that locations like Fort Lauderdale have plenty of variety when it comes to diving or snorkeling with well known destinations such as Tenneco Towers or Oil Platforms.

Miami! Probably the only location in the world you would expect to find Army tanks on the seabed.
Apart from all the cultural things you can do around Miami on your Florida diving trip there is also a great diversity of diving sites that provide novice and experienced divers plenty of occassions to have fun.

Florida Diving Sites: Key Largo-Key West

Of course no Florida diving trip can be taken without considering a visit to Key Largo or Key West, The Keys.

When you see the vast choice of dive sites available it’s easy to see why Key Largo is one of the most well-liked diving destinations in the world.

The region around Key Largo is stunning in its diversity with wrecks, reefs and caves to be explored. The biggest ship ever sunk off the coast of Florida is the USS Spiegel Grove and this challenging dive is rewarded with the amazing sight of one gigantic shipwreck now occupied by some very huge fish.

The are many other wrecks including the Duane and Bibb which can be dived by less experienced divers.

When it comes to underwater photography or macro photography Molasses Reef provides an ideal opportunity to perform your underwater skills with the shallow waters and spectacular marine life creating the fantastic colors and lighting.

People often plan their Florida diving trip with a plan to scuba the Key Largo diving sites but if your looking for a more rounded experience which includes nightlife and culture then travel further south to Key West.

Many scuba divers prefer the complete package, fun in the water and out, and Key West provides both. Great dive sites and streets full of entertainment means the place is bouncing in the night so you can enjoy yourself 24 hours a day.

So many areas and so little time and what’s more we haven’t even looked at The Gulf of Mexico on Florida’s west coast. That we will do in another article.

Golf Practice Nets And Training Aids

Why is this? Because our body can’t perform a mechanically sound swing when it is weak and tight. Go back in your mind to the last time you hit a bucket of balls. Out of the whole bucket, how many swings really felt good, and the ball did what you wanted it to do? Probably not to hard to count them is it. So start at the begining go to the gym and get in better shape. I know that it is hard these days to make time for the gym and practicing but you can do it and you’ll be glad you did when you take your buddy’s to the cleaners.

Do you remember the days when you would round up all of your buddies in the neighborhood to play a game of Backyard Football?

Yes, those were the good old days when kids would actually go outside to play and not hibernate inside the house playing computer games…

Our backyard football games were usually friendly and care was used not to get too rough with tackling.

It seems as we are getting older, and have added in-laws into our games of backyard football, the play has gotten rougher.

Cycling in Holland
The bicycle might have been invented with the Netherlands in mind. Not only is there a network of 10,000 km of cycle lanes with separate traffic lights for bikes at road intersections, but plenty of tiny roads lead into the heart of polders, farming country and forests. There are 13 million bikes in this country of 16 million people. If you’ve resisted the temptation to bicycling in Dutch cities for fear of swirling traffic, head out into the countryside. Hire a bike in town and take a train to almost anywhere you fancy, or hire a bike form the railway station at your destination, most main stations in the Netherland have hire facilities.

Leave Deep Sea Fishing Supply To The Experts

Have you ever been miles out at sea where you can’t even see the shoreline? If not, chances are you don’t have a lot of information on what you need for deep sea fishing supply and need a little help in this area before you set out for a day long excursion.

For deep sea fishing, supply items must be accounted for prior to leaving the shore because, once you’ve set out for the day, there’s no turning around to pick up something you forgot, and there won’t be other fishermen to ask for help for miles around. That’s why, if you are new to deep sea fishing, supply of the proper equipment should be left to a charter service, with individuals hailing the charter only responsible for personal care items, like sunscreen, cameras, and fishing licenses.

Accidents To Watch Out For In bungee Jumping

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Extreme Sports, News and Views, Outdoors — Tags: , — chrisy369 @ 12:19 pm

The most serious of bungee jumping accidents can be fatal, and the majority of these which have occurred in the past have been traumas to the head, resulting from miscalculating the length of cord which was needed for safe completion of the jump. One of the best known fatal accidents occurred in 1997 during a practice session for the show to be performed at half time during Superbowl XXXI, and it was said to have occurred as a result of mishandling of the bungee cords. The show was cancelled after the accident, and instead there was a tribute to Laura Patterson, the bungee jumper who had died when jumping from the top level of the Superdome in Louisiana. There have been other fatal accidents which occurred as a result of loose ankle harness, and jumpers now use a back-up body harness as an extra safety measure.

It should be noted, however, that there have been millions of jumps performed over the past few decades, and out of these only a handful have resulted in fatal accidents. Having said this, the strict safety guidelines should still be followed if accidents of any kind are to be avoided whilst bungee jumping. Minor injuries which are quite common whilst bungee jumping include bruises, pinched fingers and rope burn, though these are really just unpleasant side effects rather than actual accidents.

Skiing And Snowboarding Facts

A lot of people ski as a leisure pursuit and leave the Olympic ambitions to the daredevils. Snowboarding is now very popular with the young. It seems a crazy thing to do racing down slopes on planks of wood. Having tried it myself, I know how thrilling it could be. But I still prefer skiing to snowboarding.

I have skied in many places around the world but nothing can beat Alpine Skiing when the sun shines and the snow glitters in the sunlight. I enjoy very much Alpine skiing and wish everyone could at least try it one time.

Camping Sites Reservation Information

Filed under: Chat Forums about Sports, Outdoors, Society and Sports, Sports, Sports Products — Tags: — Kosmik @ 11:40 am

Camping is a great activity for me and my family. A lot of people like to find good camping sites as early in the year as they can. It’s important to ask a few questions when calling a place to reserve a camping site, as not all of these places are suitable, and each site will have something different to offer.
Some common questions that anyone should ask about camping sites is how much shade may or may not be there, and if there are any extras that might end up being very important. Some places have running water and electricity (great for coffee!), and these are wonderful, but not all of the sites on the camping grounds will have this. Before you reserve the camping site they are offering to you, just make sure you ask the right questions.

Learning any new sport is a lot of fun, but it is also a lot of hard work. There are many sports from which to choose, with most going with things like baseball, basketball, and football. However, there are other sports out there that are gaining popularity, though they are not available at all schools. Soccer is one of those sports. Some schools touch on the soccer basics in physical education classes, but in order to play on a team, you have to be sure the basics are taught and securely fixed.
Getting out on the field to play is often what some think of as the best part of playing soccer, and of course that is usually true. However, some of the most important soccer basics are taught off the field.
