My Opportunity to Ride on a NASCAR Race Track

I live about 20 miles from Texas Motor Speedway, and a few years ago I had the opportunity to ride a in a pace car around the NASCAR race track. I can say with complete honesty that it was an experience I will never forget.

I had been writing about a race weekend that would be taking place at the speedway in about three weeks, and I had the opportunity to speak to a former driver. He told me that he was looking forward to the weekend and said that a lot of the top drivers would be there, and in the course of the conversation, I happened to mention to him that I had always wondered what it was like to drive on a NASCAR race track.

He told me that it pretty much felt like riding in a pace car, except it was a little bit faster and, of course, you were driving yourself. Not being that familiar with NASCAR, I asked him what a pace car was, and he seemed to go into shock.

“You’ve never ridden in a pace car?” he asked.

I told him that I had not, and he immediately invited me down to the speedway to allow me to do just that, and even said that he personally would drive me around the track.

I could feel my heart pumping about a million beats a minute as I drove to the speedway, and I really wondered what I had gotten myself into. He was waiting there for me with a big smile on his face and said I was about to go for a ride I would never forget.

Now, the Texas Motor Speedway has a number of tracks, but we went to the actual NASCAR race track to do the pace car ride.

It started out innocently enough, but within a few seconds, were going well over 100 miles an hour and I was scared out of my mind. It felt almost as if we were not in control of the car, but he seemed totally at ease as he casually turned each lap. Eventually, I settled down and really ended up enjoying the ride.

He asked me how I liked it, and I told him that, while it took some getting used to, I did really enjoy myself and would not mind doing it again some time. He said that a lot of people had the same kind of reaction to riding in a pace car that I did.

I have not ridden in one since, and I really have not even been to a NASCAR race track since that ride. I agreed to switch beats with another writer who was a huge NASCAR fan and who had been in a pace car a number of times. While I don’t know if I will ever get to ride in another pace car, I sure did enjoy it the time I did.

An article about: Boat Racing

Lakes and rivers are the setting for hydroplane racing. The sport has both class and open competition and junior divisions are very popular. Outboard engine versions also race in their own class. The sport is particularly well established in Japan, where it is called kyotei. This kind of boat racing was controversial in its early days as there were a number of injuries and deaths. Safety features have recently been introduced, including protected cockpits and safety belts.

About Kart Racing

Kart racing is a form of motorsport, and one of the most inexpensive ways to go fast on four wheels and race around in a competitive environment. It uses open-wheeled vehicles that are powered by small engines, in vehicles that weigh only around 160lbs without the driver. With that little weight to haul around, even using diminutive engines, these things can reach speeds in excess of 100mph. That’s fast in anybody’s book.

Due to the inexpensive nature of the sport, karting is also used as a tool to teach aspiring drivers the basics of racing techniques, because much of the underlying concepts of racing karts apply also to other forms of motorsports, and this is a form of racing that can exemplify the importance of good technique more than any other sport.

4 Wheeler Racing

Much of the reason for the popularity of off road racing is also the reasons don’t want their youngsters involved in the thrilling hobby. There is just no getting around the fact that racing four-wheelers is a dangerous passion to have. Even an amateur ATV race will, by the very nature of the sport take the four-wheeler and its driver over rough terrain that could include ravines, rocks, fallen trees and just about anything else you might find in nature.

It is one thing to take an ATV out for a recreational tour of the wilderness. It is dangerous enough when you have the liberty to go slow, turn back or get out and clear the route before you take your four-wheeler over that terrain. In a racing situation, you are pushing that ATV to its speed limits and the driver will commonly charge right into unfamiliar terrain that may have hidden dangers because of the need to move quickly to win the race.

I just wrote an article about boat racing. Here’s an except from that article:

Drag racing on land, with custom built cars is an exciting spectator sport. The water equivalent is just as thrilling and drag boat racing is growing in support. One reason the events are such popular spectator sports is that you never know what is going to happen with the surface of the water. A light breeze might come up or something might be floating in the water. Either event could have dire consequences for the participants in the race. The race is usually over a quarter mile and involves two boats, competing against each other. The highlight of the drag calendar is the IHBA World Finals, held at Phoenix in Arizona.

The ATV You Ride for the World To See

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Extreme Sports, Outdoors, Racing — Barney @ 8:50 am

ATV riders love to ride, tune and fine-tune their bikes to hit tracks and outperform other atv riders or just simply enjoy themselves. A lot of atv’s look fantastics and each rider can give their atv a personal look and feel. Some riders like to give it a simple, obvious, clean look, while others like it more complex with all kinds of design strokes, flames and what not. More advanced atv riders usually don’t care about the looks that much. They rather spend their money on fine-tuning how their bikes perform.

If you want to see some examples of kick-ass atv rides, check out the Gallery of ATV Pictures at AtvgraphicMan.com, the Custom ATV Graphics Kits site, and tell you friends about it.

Who Are The Top NASCAR Drivers?

Filed under: Professional Sports, Racing, Sports, Sports on TV — thad.hubbard@meetinglogicllc.com @ 5:08 pm

One of the more popular NASCAR drivers today is Dale Earnhardt Jr. Born in 1974, he made it to the main NASCAR series in 2000. He won races in Texas and Richmond that year. However, he lost to Matt Kenseth for the Rookie of the Year award. By the time he’s finished racing he may be one of the NASCAR drivers with the most wins.

Jimmie Johnson is less experienced, but he is another of the top NASCAR drivers today. Born in 1975, he won three races in 2002 in the Nextel Cup, but he lost to Ryan Newman for the Rookie of the Year title. Johnson finished in second place for the Nextel Cup in 2003 and 2004. While he has not been in NASCAR for long, he is already having a great amount of success.

Attention Punters: Get The Shocking Truth On What You Must Do To Get The Winning Horse Racing Ticket!

Most people who become interested in racing, if pinned down and forced to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, would admit that they know very little about horses, racing and the figuring of winners. Whether or not they admit these facts to you or to me, nevertheless they know them in their own hearts. The net result of this condition is to throw a substantial majority of bettors on the mercy of those who claim to know what it is all about. Hence, at a track, you will see spectators running about with a racing sheet, their eyes glued on the selectors’ pages rather than on the pages where the cold past performance records of the horses are displayed. Or you will see them consulting the graded handicaps of a single selector employed by a daily newspaper, or perhaps a consensus of the opinions of selectors on several papers in the same city. If they are not following the selectors on a racing sheet or a regular newspaper, the chances are they will be following the choices of a scratch-sheet or a tip-card sold at the track. And if they are doing none of these things the odds are that they are betting what they fondly believe to be stable information, or a friend’s tip, or anybody else’s tip.

Inability of the public to figure fields of horses results in their turning avidly to any other source of information * that they believe to be better qualified than themselves.

Sport Betting and Horse Race betting

Filed under: Racing, Sports Gambling — Tony Wilton @ 10:07 pm

I have spent years learning all things I can about both horse betting for a full time income working from home.
You can simply get lost in this area as we all have contrasting opinions of what works and what does not.

I have researched all the wealthy profesional gamblers and became a scholar of their efforts.
I longed-for the unthinkable. I desired a system I could run that would produce a full time income in less than 30 minutes a day.
I did not wish to invest vast amounts of cash, ( this was to become my business not a game)
I also did not want to spend all day making bets…. And I wasn’t happy to pay top rate phone call fees which would dilute profits.

So I combined all the best aspects from all the systems, and studies that I experienced from each one of the reknowned proferssional gamblers which I had studied with my own skills, and produced a ground breaking software program that spits out revenue week after week…My system has worked to the tune of over 12,760 in profit in the past 6 weeks!

Horse Racing Throughout the History

Filed under: Outdoors, Professional Sports, Racing, Sports — joe @ 12:11 am

Man has been known to use horses for racing since this specie was first domesticated. Historical evidences reveal that as early as 4500 BC, the nomadic people of Central Asia has already developed systems of horse racing. In fact, the Greeks are known to have incorporated horse racing in the Olympics since 638 BC.

Both the chariot horse racing and the mounted horse racing were popular during these ages. These later became an obsession among Romans when they have adopted the sport.

For thousand of years that followed, this type of sports was known to be performed only for the noble men and royalties.

Modern racing is said to have started in the 12th century when the first breeding between Arabian and English horses were made. These were sparred by the return of the noble knights to the mother land after the Crusades. These are known to have produced sturdy horses with excellent speed. Thus, breeders maximized the potentiality of a racehorse and put them into tracks. This breed is the Thoroughbred that we know of today which is still the most popular breed in the United Kingdom.

Bicycles Today

Filed under: Cycling, Exercise Fitness, Outdoors, Racing, Society and Sports — lc131@stoush.com @ 2:50 am

In some Western societies, after World War II the bicycle was largely relegated to a device for children, particularly in the United States. In some western countries, most notably Northern European ones such as the Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark, bicycle use for transportation remained fairly common.

Interest has gradually returned elsewhere, mostly as a fitness activity, hobby, and competitive sport.

More and more people are also using the bicycle as a short-range transportation tool, particularly in large, densely populated cities where slow vehicle traffic, high registration and parking costs, and environmental concerns have made commuting by automobile less attractive. This trend has been accelerated by the process of “gentrification” of the inner suburbs of many cities. Many cities are now providing cyclist-only lanes on roads, as well as cycle trails, for both commuting and hobbyist cyclists…

4 Wheeler Fun

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Extreme Sports, Outdoors, Racing, Sports — Sports Junky @ 3:14 pm

We are fortunate enough to have paths in the acreage behind our home for 4 wheelers.  We use the paths to go from one neighbor’s home to another and to simply walk in the woods.  The wooded area where the paths are located is quite dense and filled with very old beautiful hardwood maples and ash trees.  This wooded area is tax forfeited land, so it is owned by the State of Minnesota.
