The most challenging exercise I’ve ever done was mountain climbing which I ventured with a group of die-hard mountaineers 12 or 15 years ago. I was in my forties and a lot more agile then. Not only was the climb extremely difficult work – the human body wasn’t really designed for scaling a vertical rock face – but the thin air made it almost intolerable for my lungs. For the first few days up in the mountains, I felt like I couldn’t get enough oxygen. I was so dizzy and light headed. But I stuck through with it. And I vowed then I would never climb a mountain again.
