Sports After 60 — How and Why You Should Continue Doing Sports After 60

I know for myself one of the most cherished parts of my life has been my love of the ocean and the sport of surfing. As I grew up in southern Calif. I started hanging out at the beach surfing when I was 12 or 13 years old. I surfed almost daily through high school. In my twenties I started moving around but managed to continue surfing even in colder less hospitable locations. I am turning 60 this year in March and I still enjoy surfing with a passion even though I don’t get the chance to surf as often.

One of the reasons I have been able to stay with this sport that I love so much is that I have made sure I stayed physically fit. I also have stayed consistent with my surfing, at least enough to not lose my desire.

Unfortunately many people give up on their passion for a sport as they get older because they get too busy, their priorities change or they lose their physical stamina to keep doing the sport. Keep up with the latest good sports gear and make easier on yourself.

Extreme Sports: Skateboarding and How to Become Good At It

So you plan on trying out skateboarding? You saw how the pros do it and you definitely want to do the same thing that they do. However, you have to remember that in this kind of extreme sport, you need to develop your skills in order to become good at it.

Skateboarding is a very dangerous activity. Here, you will risk broken bones, and other injuries. In fact, some people who tried out this sport have been hospitalized for months at a time. This is why you need to know how to skateboard properly. By doing so, you will minimize injuries and become better at skateboarding in no time at all.

The first thing that you need to do is that you have to learn the basics of skateboarding. Skateboarding is a great sport as it will be able to let you express yourself in a lot of ways. Aside from the adrenaline rush that skateboarding can give you, you will see that doing stunts perfectly can be very satisfying.

Try to imagine doing a perfect Ollie or doing a great run on the ramp? This would definitely impress onlookers especially your skateboard buddies.

(After all the action, enjoy a hot beverage from your best espresso machine.)

Of course, the first thing that you need to do is buy your own skateboard. You have to remember that if you want to perform skateboarding stunts, you might want to invest a little more on your skateboard. If you plan on being a poser or you have a death wish, then a cheap skateboard will do. Only buy a skateboard from reputable skateboard shops in your area. This way, you will be able to get quality boards that will be able to let you perform extreme tricks without risking a broken board as well as broken bones.

It is also advisable that you should ask the skate shop salesperson about what kind of skateboard is right for you. They may ask you about your experience and also ask you about what tricks you plan on doing with the skateboard. As a beginner, you really don’t need an ultra expensive board.

Now that you have a proper skateboard, the next step is to buy all the necessary safety equipments. You will need a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, wrist guards and also the proper shoes. Why do you need a proper skateboard shoes? For starters, skateboard shoes are specially designed to get better grip on the skateboard. It is also designed to protect your ankles whenever you experience a fall. This means that it will minimize foot injuries.

After that, you are now ready to skateboard for the very first time.

Once you get comfortable using your skateboard, the next step would be performing the various tricks you see using the skateboard. However, before you do complicated tricks, you need to be able to perform the Ollie first. You have to consider the fact that most skateboard tricks are derived from the Ollie. This means that you first need to master this trick in order for you to do other tricks.

These are the basics on skateboarding. Whenever you practice tricks or stunts in skateboarding, expect to fall once in a while. Falling or hitting the pavement is just part of the sport. Even pros fell when they were just beginning to learn skateboarding and even if they are now good at skateboarding, they still experience falls. Skateboarding is an extreme sport. Just remember to use the necessary safety gears in order to minimize the risk of serious injuries.
