Snowboarders should be Snowboarding All Year

Don’t borrow snowboarding equipment from friends; it significantly increases your risk of injury.

The top sports injury that a majority of the snowboarders receive is a wrist injury.

Falls are more frequent during snowboarding. The natural response to a fall is to stretch out a hand to break the fall, and falls tend to occur more often in beginners. For this reason Colles fractures Scaphoid and fractures of the wrist are a relatively common feature, with around 100,000 wrist fractures worldwide among snowboarders each year. Snowboarders should wear wrist guards as they significantly reduce the incidence of wrist injuries during falls. Another common injury is head injuries which can lead to serious conclusions.

Helmets are effective in reducing the incidence of minor concussions during low velocity collisions. Be sure to grab both of these when you do your shopping for snowboarding.

You may think this will save you money, but in the end it may cost u thousands in hospital bills. If you are hiring equipment make sure you hire from a recommended store. Ensure that all the equipment fits properly. This will help avoid serious injuries and unnecessary falls due to non fitting equipment.

Another good tip is be careful about rocks so you reduce the risk of an injury. (more…)

Skiing And Snowboarding Facts

Filed under: Amateur Sports,Extreme Sports,Outdoors,Ski,Snowboarding — Tags: — Kosmik @ 12:41 pm

A lot of people ski as a leisure pursuit and leave the Olympic ambitions to the daredevils. Snowboarding is now very popular with the young. It seems a crazy thing to do racing down slopes on planks of wood. Having tried it myself, I know how thrilling it could be. But I still prefer skiing to snowboarding.

I have skied in many places around the world but nothing can beat Alpine Skiing when the sun shines and the snow glitters in the sunlight. I enjoy very much Alpine skiing and wish everyone could at least try it one time.

Buying Discounted Snowboard Boots

Before you buy your discount snowboard boots, you should ensure that they fit you just like the other boots you normally wear and there should be sufficient toe movement as well as solid heel hold, and don’t worry too much if your discount snowboard boots pinch a bit in the beginning because with time they will properly break in. Also, look for padding inside the boot which should be sufficient because it will tend to compact with time which may cause your discount snowboard boots to become a bit roomier than before. So, make sure that it fits snugly both for the toes and also for heel hold.

Many Choices Available For Building a Snowboard Box

Filed under: Amateur Sports,Extreme Sports,Outdoors,Snowboarding,Sports — Jim Allen @ 1:13 am
Foamalux is a strong, UV stable material that can be used to build a snowboard box. It’s also easy for machining. Like stainless steel, it also is expensive – but if you have the funds, it’s a good choice. Another suggested snowboard box material is P-tex. It’s stronger than most woods and will give you a great slide. You should be able to find it at someplace like Home Depot. For better performance and an even better glide, look for the 4001 Grade P-tex base material.

People, Who Snow Ski, Must Be Crazy!

It’s so cold, it’s so wet, and it’s so dangerous? Please let me share why we are not Crazy!

For Everyone.

Snow skiing is one of the really exciting sports that combine exhilaration, fellowship, ambience and adventure, for all levels of participants. In Europe, children are being taught to ski as young as 2 years old and on the same slopes there are people over 90 years young. There are people of every nationality, race, creed and colour. There are one armed, one legged and even blind people, involved everywhere, at some level. What is the appeal of a sport that brings so many different people together, amidst the cold snow, in the sprit of friendliness and just having a good time?

Camaraderie.

As you meet your friends or join your ski school group in the queue for the very first lift of the day, there is a shared feeling of anticipation and nervousness as to what the day will bring. Every one is fresh and dry in their colourful ski clothes, possibly a little cold, but already, the adrenaline is staring to flow. Perhaps it is the first time you have met the group and with the common anticipation, being shared, you are soon talking to others, about where they are from, how long they’ve been skiing etc. Then as you share your exploits and adventure during the day, by the time the lifts close, you are already on the way to feeling like friends.

Fellowship

The air is still and the twilight is descending onto the mountain. And lights are on in all the bars, cafes and restaurants as they shout “Welcome, to all you Ski Adventurers.” You and your group answer that welcome and share glu-wein, a vodka fig or just a cleansing ale. Your faces are flushed and rosy from the day’s exertions, and as you relive your experiences, they become funnier and braver than you ever felt possible. By the time it is ready for dinner, you have all become heroes in each other’s eyes, with the quiet satisfaction and internal pride that “today, you did good!”

Alpine Skiing

Most people ski as a leisure pursuit and leave the Olympic ambitions to the daredevils. Snowboarding, particularly popular with the young, has joined Alpine Skiing. Racing down slopes on planks of wood does seem a crazy thing to do. Having done it myself, I know how exhilarating it is. I have skied in Scotland in the fog and over sheer ice. I hit a sheet of ice one day and couldn’t stop myself from crashing into a picket fence.

Ski Vacations

Filed under: Amateur Sports,Extreme Sports,Outdoors,Ski,Snowboarding — serguei@lycos.nl @ 9:38 am

Probably the best thing about ski vacations is that they can be for the entire family. Ski resorts always have beginner classes, and young children can start to ski along with the rest of their family. Most places also have other activities like snowboarding and inter-tubing. They also have rentals if you don’t have your own equipment. These can make ski vacations great fun for the entire family. If you find that no one has a talent for skiing, that’s okay too. You may find you enjoy a winter hike and a hot cup of cocoa instead.

Many expert skiers frequent the resort at Courchevel in the Savoie region of the French Alps. It was the first purpose built ski resort in the country and can be accessed from Courchevel Airport. Mont Blanc is an impressive site and the resort at Chamonix is situated at its base. This area was the site for the 1924 Winter Olympics and attracts advanced skiers and snowboarders. Les Planards is more suited to beginners and intermediate people, although some like to ski off piste into Switzerland with the aid of a mountain guide.
