Camping Sites Reservation Information

Filed under: Chat Forums about Sports, Outdoors, Society and Sports, Sports, Sports Products — Tags: — Kosmik @ 11:40 am

Camping is a great activity for me and my family. A lot of people like to find good camping sites as early in the year as they can. It’s important to ask a few questions when calling a place to reserve a camping site, as not all of these places are suitable, and each site will have something different to offer.
Some common questions that anyone should ask about camping sites is how much shade may or may not be there, and if there are any extras that might end up being very important. Some places have running water and electricity (great for coffee!), and these are wonderful, but not all of the sites on the camping grounds will have this. Before you reserve the camping site they are offering to you, just make sure you ask the right questions.

Camping Equipment Tips And Advice

Filed under: Articles about Sports, Outdoors, Society and Sports, Sports, Sports Products — Tags: — Kosmik @ 5:29 pm

Though camping is not for everyone, there are many families that enjoy a weekend away in the wilderness. Some like to find an organized campground to camp for a few days or even a few weeks.

Different equipment is needed for different weather conditions. Even a sunny day can turn into a chilly evening and it’s a good idea to have some sort of portable heater.

So that you don’t lose your way while hiking to or from your group’s campsite, make sure that you have a map of the camping area, along with your compass, to help you find your way.

Camping is supposed to be a wonderful way to experience the great outdoors, so make sure that you have all the camping equipment that you need..

How to Determine the Value of Sports Memorabilia

Filed under: Collectibles Sports, Society and Sports — fmanness @ 2:38 pm

Perhaps the most important factor in determining the value of sports memorabilia is the athlete or the sportsman. If you have a real popular and well-known sports hero’s merchandise with his name on it the value may be more. A name like Tiger Woods for an example would increase the value of sports memorabilia overnight. In fact the value of sports memorabilia in the area of golf has increased tremendously since Tiger Woods has been on the circuit.

Revel In Skandia Cowes Sailing Regatta Week 2008, Commercial Events with Ondeck Sailing School

Sailing as a sport, leisure pursuit or used as an industry instrument is extremely satisfying. There are also exceptional yachting events that make it equally refreshing and can be something that the whole members of the family equipped to go & watch as one. One of the focal weeks of the yachting schedule is the Skandia Cowes Regatta Week; this event takes place yearly & has been in action since 1826 which makes it the longest running regatta on the planet. With more than eight hundred ocean racing boats & 8,000 contenders playing a part, being examined by well over seventy thousand spectators each day Cowes week has gained the kudos as one of the crucial sailing business hospitality & community event of the total year.

The eight thousand five-hundred contenders are an array of Olympic & world class certified sailors to recently qualified sailors. Still if you’re not involving yourself, observing the sailing, taking pleasure in the social gatherings & live entertainment, & to witness the unique sensation, makes it a one of a kind sailing event.

With Ondeck Sailing and Powerboat School, two thousands & eight begins the opening of their fresh Regatta Division. Developing on their outstanding position within the charter market, this has seen Ondeck Sailing, run quite a few good sailing events for businesses, they have lately united with Britannia Events, the principal organisers of industry regattas within the United Kingdom. If you’re planning to go to Cowes this year then check out Ondeck’s events for the Cowes Regatta.

The track of the race itself will vary each time as factors such as the weather forecast, tidal torrents & pace of each class group of boat is taken into deciding. A typical Cowes Regatta has over thirty five start offs each day for rivals of cruiser series one designs & keelboats; ending with over a thousand powerboats. At some point in this period the Solent which is an extensively busy merchant shipping waterway, is bursting with sailing boats of all categories and is particularly colourful due to the yachts spinnakers. As high lighted earlier in addition to the yachting competitions the week consists of a large number of onshore activities for example live music & cocktail parties. From private or commercial residential parties and nominally private yacht groups & boats, there are enormous marquees setup in the marinas giving out food and wine.

Live Sports On Computer

Filed under: Football, Society and Sports, Sports, Sports Movies, Sports on TV — BenJen @ 11:14 pm

In its early years, television relied on sports to grow. TV manufacturers broadcast sports programs to boost viewer ship so that they could sell more sets. Things have changed and today, we make additional payment over subscription fees in order to watch sports on TV. We should not. Satellite and cable companies have the habit of imposing pay-per-view on popular sports events, be it boxing, football, tennis or other sports. Computer makers should pull the same trick like TV before and telecast those sports programs free so there’s win-win once again. We can then write off those cable and satellite TV providers.

Actually, something to that effect has already long been done. It’s Free To Air Internet TV, where satellite TV is streamed directly to our computers over the internet. We can now watch Live Sports On Computer.

Tailgate partieshave been around for many decades. People have been gathering in parking lots before baseball and football games for years. Grilling and eating hot dogs and hamburgers, and drinking as much beer as possible before the game starts, has been going on since at least the middle 70’s.

Are you fixated on having the Perfect Body?

Filed under: Exercise Fitness, News and Views, Society and Sports, Weightlifting — stetbooks @ 5:15 pm

I’m often asked how much exercise a person needs to keep fit. Usually the question is not asked by the lazy, but by people who find they have little time for long workouts. In the hectic pace at which most of us live time a precious commodity.

Well, the answer is not as easy as it may seem. While any exercise is better than none, too much can be detrimental.

Usually I answer the question by using the tale of the race between the tortoise and the hare. The fastest doesn’t always get to the finish line first.

This seems to be borne out by a study on exercise carried out in the Netherlands. It found there was value even in exercise during TV commercials.

In fact it found these two minute exercise breaks during commercials were more effective than brief, high-intensity health club workouts based on the ”no pain, no gain” mantra in weight loss.

Sports After College

Filed under: Society and Sports, Sports — Greg Everett @ 9:36 pm

Many college athletes go on to compete in an array of sports long after their college careers are over.  Often athletes move on to another sport that they may have not tried before just to experience something different than the sport they have spent several years practicing and competing in.

When a college athlete doesn’t go on to actively participate in sporting competition after college, it can be due to several reasons.  One of the more common reasons is likely to be their decision to exchange wedding vows and get married.  A serious relationship brings new responsibilities that can often quickly fill in the time they once used to stay in shape.

How to Race a Lawn Mower

Drivers at the Durham Fair will check their engines one last time before the announcer calls out those electrifying words: “Start your lawnmowers!” when some 40 rider lawn mowers will race.
On a recent Sunday, the Durham Fair Foundation sponsored a free program on the fairgrounds, “How to Race a Lawn Mower” for those interested in learning about the esoteric competitive sport of lawnmower racing. These weren’t a bunch of guys walking in circles cutting the grass, either.
And, make no mistake, these aren’t the typical rider mowers that your father-in-law leisurely cruises around on his ¼-acre lawn on a Saturday morning.
Think: “Get your mower runnin’.” These are souped-up four-wheeler racing lawnmowers that roar like Harleys with straight pipes. Re-built for speed - up to 60 mph.
Mower madness began in 1992 as an April Fools Day joke and has become a national trend with many fans and participants here. The Connecticut Lawn Mower Racing Association is a local chapter of the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association, which boasts over 500 members.
Mike Farmer, of Griswold, a veteran racer and winner of several championships, believes this is a sport for anyone with a more domestic craving for speed. Much tamer than monster truck racing or NASCAR - both famous for its made-for-TV thrills and spills. Sure, you won’t burn up the asphalt in Lowe’s Motor Speedway in North Carolina - but maybe a bit of dirt track.
This is a sport made for do-it-yourselfers. Farmer, who grew up on a farm in Ohio where he spent time fixing the family tractors and cars, got into this lawn mower racing by accident.

Sculpting Your Body Through Weight Training

Filed under: Exercise Fitness, News and Views, Society and Sports, Weightlifting — lc131@stoush.com @ 7:07 pm

Resistance is NOT futile! When it comes to changing your body for the better quickly and permanently, nothing comes close to good old-fashioned weight training.

The shape of your body is determined by three things: muscle, bone and fat. While there’s really nothing you can do about changing your bone structure, there is a whole lot you can do about muscle and fat. This ratio of muscle to fat is commonly known as your body composition.

And what is the fastest way to change your body composition? Weight training. Why is it so effective? Because it builds muscle.

Muscle is the key to changing your body. While fat certainly gives your body shape, muscle is what gives you the shape you actually WANT!….

Be Challenged to Stay Motivated

Here’s about Staying Motivated

In order to stay motivated, try to get excited about your goals or job that you need to accomplish. Washing all the windows in the house or doing twelve loads of laundry certainly does not sound exciting, but think about the positives. Think about how accomplishing those goals will set your mind at ease and leave you free to do the things you really want to do. Focus on the feeling that the end result will give you and work towards that. If you are trying to stop smoking, keep in mind how much money you will save on cigarettes or how much better you will smell when you do not smoke. With those ideas in mind, it is easier to stay focused on your goals.

Bicycles Today

Filed under: Cycling, Exercise Fitness, Outdoors, Racing, Society and Sports — lc131@stoush.com @ 2:50 am

In some Western societies, after World War II the bicycle was largely relegated to a device for children, particularly in the United States. In some western countries, most notably Northern European ones such as the Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark, bicycle use for transportation remained fairly common.

Interest has gradually returned elsewhere, mostly as a fitness activity, hobby, and competitive sport.

More and more people are also using the bicycle as a short-range transportation tool, particularly in large, densely populated cities where slow vehicle traffic, high registration and parking costs, and environmental concerns have made commuting by automobile less attractive. This trend has been accelerated by the process of “gentrification” of the inner suburbs of many cities. Many cities are now providing cyclist-only lanes on roads, as well as cycle trails, for both commuting and hobbyist cyclists…

The Golf Swing

An article on the golf swing

Watch the PGA Tour and you’ll see professional golfers get upset with shots you would kill to make consistently. Occasionally, you’ll see them hit one into the netherworld and somehow escape with par or bogie.

How do they do it?

It’s the biggest difference between professional golfers and amateur golfers. When a pro goes to the driving range, he’s there to warm up, check how his swing feels and maybe make some minor tweaks to adapt his shots to the course conditions.

An amateur is trying to find his golf swing. Once he’s found his golf swing, his battle will be to keep it working and pray that it doesn’t disappear once he’s out on the golf course.

Getting involved in a fitness routine does not mean that you need to spend money by joining a gym or purchasing equipment. There are many pieces of equipment that will improve your physical well being, but you can also achieve this without making purchases. Some people do find that purchasing equipment or fitness tapes are a way to motivate them to start using muscles that may need extra conditioning or to get started exercising.

A variety of activities helps keep you motivated with your quest for getting into shape. A variety of different exercises also helps to conditional all muscle groups. It is important to start out any exercise routine by stretching. This will help to avoid muscle strain and injury. A physical activity can be as simple as walking around the neighborhood, or biking on your favorite trail. By choosing to walk to do some of your errands or by parking further away from the door you can incorporate exercise into your routine without adding extra time.

My Aerobic Center - The Ultimate Gym

An article about aerobic centers  by Joseph Marian

The aerobic center offers all types of luxury and relaxation, complete with health drinks and light refreshment. If I want to complete my aerobic exercises and relax in a jacuzzi, I am virtually guaranteed a private facility in which to unwind. There are masseuses on hand at all times of the day and night, as well as a personal trainer who will meet with you up to three times a week, if you desire it. They also offer more exotic forms of health therapy at the aerobic center, such as acupuncture, fasting and cleansing diets, and meditation. And just because it is an aerobic center, that does not mean that it is not equipped for anaerobic exercises. Anaerobic exercises are things like weight lifting or resistance training for those of you who might not know. There are plenty of weight lifting and strength training facilities in addition to the cardiovascular stuff… treadmills, exercise bikes, step machines and the like. And then there are, of course, the recreational sports at the aerobic center. From racquetball to tennis, it is all there for the taking. Trust me when I tell you this is better than anything you could possibly have in your basement…

The Saga to the Super Bowl - the NFL 2005.

This years NFL season has been more like an episode of a crappy soap opera than grown men participating in battle on the football field. Let’s review the distractions that some of these overpaid primadonnas have caused this year.

Starting with the obvious, yup, like it or not, T.O. is in the news every day. I wish this thing would go away but not much chance of that anytime soon. On second thought, maybe I don’t want it to go away – makes for good fodder!

The latest is that apparently arbitrator Richard Bloch is expected to reduce the suspension of four games that the Eagles handed out to T.O. recently. Last Friday’s hearing lasted 14 hours. It has to make me wonder – is Bloch getting paid by the hour? The NFL player association was seeking to have the suspension reduced and wants the Eagles to cut Owens if they are not interested in playing him again this season. The apparent decision from Bloch involves cutting T.O. instead of deactivating him, which was the original plan of the Eagles top brass. If he is cut, then Owens could go through the NFL’s waiver system with the worst team getting the first shot of claiming him.

Worst team eh? – Guess that means he is headed to Texas or back to San Francisco – so in other words, Texans here he comes. There is no way that the 49ers would take him back. On ESPN recently that had an interesting analysis of who would most likely take T.O. (everything else being equal) and they came up with the Broncos who certainly could use his talents to take that next step towards the Super Bowl.

Now, the Vikings. Just a brief synopsis here, time and decency prevent a full “undressing of this guy’s season.

Under the category of convenient segues, the funniest thing that some of the - seemingly lobotomized – individuals on this team have done was the infamous ‘love boat’ trip. Here is how the conversation might have gone:
Teammate 1 – “Hey dude, lets rent a couple boats, get a bunch of booze and women and have a sex fest
Teammate 2 – “Great idea, what could possibly go wrong, its not like the media keeps and eye on NFL player activities
Teammate 3 – “Exactly, we will just go have a quiet weekend of sex, drugs and booze and no one will be the wiser
Teammate 4 – “Don’t invite Culpepper though, that guy is a square

But the Vikings travails started much earlier in the season:
1. They traded Randy Moss to the Raiders, giving up their best, albeit controversial player.
2. Mike Tice was fined $100,000 for scalping Super Bowl tickets (he needed the money),
3. Their best running back was suspended for the entire season for substance abuse. (I bet he was on the boat though).

Now, Culpepper is out and even Tice got a knee injury just from standing on the sidelines.

Synopsis: The Eagles and Vikings won’t be appearing in the Super Bowl.

Who will be appearing in the Super Bowl? A tougher question but it can be easily narrowed down to a short list.

Colts, Broncos or Patriots from the AFC.

Seattle, Chicago (dark horse), or Atlanta from the NFC.

Once again, the AFC will win regardless of who makes it. More reasons why the above teams will be in the hunt later, but right now I have to go on EBAY and find a Terrell Owens bobble head doll…….

More on the Super Bowl at Sir Links Alot.
