Satellite for Sports Fans

Filed under: Baseball, Basketball, Football, Professional Sports, Sports, Sports on TV — Author @ 1:13 pm

Often times it seems like TV is more important than air for most sports fans. In fact, I have seen more than one football fan drool when going by a store that advertises low-cost direct tv specials. Why is this? Well, sports watching has become a sport unto itself, a way of life for many men and women across the country. And having the best picture to watch is of extreme importance for these sports fans; any static on the screen just won’t cut it. That’s why all sports fans should read the article, “Satellite TV – The New Age Television.” This article will confirm your commitment to great TV, and show you how to find the best quality for the lowest price.

Portable Basketball Goals Are A Wonderful Thing

Filed under: Anger Management, Basketball, Sports, Sports Products — Author @ 1:30 pm

With a portable basketball goal a child has the opportunity to play basketball almost anywhere. Unlike a standard wall mount version, this goal can be relocated from one place to another with relative ease. Looking for a portable goal? Awesome! Lots of people had a basketball backboard attached to our or barn. If we didn’t there was usually a neighbor with one who would welcome the chance to play a game of one-on-one. Now, with many families living in smaller houses, there isn’t always a good spot for a wall mount hoop. But I had a pole mounted basketball goal which was great. Most portable goals are highly weather resistant and can be left outside year round. Some people store the portable basketball goal in a garage or shed when the weather turns cold. It’s worthwhile noting that the plastic base and the other parts are made to withstand both heat and cold, so it can certainly stay outdoors for use on a warm winter day. Dunking is not…

Drake is making history in Iowa

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Athletes, Basketball, Coaches — Author @ 10:55 am

The Iowa travel guide lists several sports events as hot spots in the state. Of course they include the University of Iowa Hawks and the Iowa State Cyclones at the top of the list. Surprisingly the pro and semi pro teams fall under those two college teams in attendance rankings. Then they list the lower class teams such as UNI and Drake, although most of the state’s attention seems to be focused on the Drake basketball team this season. This team offers no scholarships but managed to get ranked in the top twenty in the nation. They are expected to get into the sweet sixteen this year with a good shot at the final four. No one wants to jinx their chances by picking them as the number one winner, but there have been whispers on the subject. The team was coached by Tom Davis until he retired last season. The new coach is none other than coach Davis’ son Keno. The players claim that they could barely tell the coach had changed, but apparently Keno has what it takes to make the chemistry work for the players. They will tell you that no one of them is a standout but together they are a force to be reckoned with.

Sports contribute to Iowa tourism

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Articles about Sports, Basketball — Author @ 2:36 pm

The high school sports contribute greatly to east Iowa tourism. There is a population center on the east side of the state so there are some of the state’s largest schools in that area. Surprisingly, although they do carry a large share of the fans there are actually more fans from the smaller schools that do the traveling. There are lots of small schools in the area and smaller schools seem to have more devoted fans, the ones that will get up and travel long distances to watch their sons and daughters compete to carry on the school pride. Most attention is paid to the larger schools because you can reach so many more fans with one message where as with the smaller schools you need to deliver your message eight or ten time to reach the same number of people. Now what we need is a place where we can get more schools in the same place at the same time, this is where the state tournaments come in. It is a great time as a good number of all sizes of schools occupy the same space for a three or four day period. That would be the best place to concentrate sales.

Drafting Your Fantasy Team

Helpful Tips About Portable Basketball Goal

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Basketball, College Sports, Fantasy Hoops, Sports — Author @ 1:22 pm

Nice article about portable basketball goal!

To my surprise, the portable basketball goal actually increased my productivity. At first, of course, played basketball too often, but soon I was only shooting when I had time to take a break. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised, because during my last job, when I had worked near my house, I had loves to go home and shoot baskets in between appointments. Having a portable basketball goal seemed like a way of taking a little bit of…

Basic Offense Against Man For Man Defense

Filed under: Basketball — Author @ 11:12 am

The pattern of attack is set up so that two, three, or four men figure in the play. You may set up drills to practice this before you put the entire play together. This I do on half court, and rotate the inside, and outside men, so that no matter what position they find themselves in as they come down the floor, they are ready for the offense to begin. This inter-changing of personnel has other merit too, in that, sometimes you will have one of your bigger men outside, defensed by a man who is not familiar with defensing an outside man. This often enables the boy to get by him, and score more easily. Also, the same thing applies to the smaller boy who has gone inside to replace the big man. Sometimes the defensive man assigned to him is unfamiliar with defensing an inside man so this works to your advantage also.

You may set up your drill as follows:

Now! There Is a Way To Coach Basketball Team To The Top Of The Ladder With These Surefire Secrets

Filed under: Basketball — Author @ 6:07 am

The fundamentals of offensive basketball can be listed by all coaches. High school players can list them. They have been enumerated and well defined for a long period of time. If coaches were asked to list the fundamentals of defense, they would all give different answers. Defensive fundamentals are rather vague and nebulous. Required skills vary from team to team and from coach to coach. Surely it is time we accepted a given list of fundamentals so that they may be defined and taught in a more precise and exact manner.

We are going to list eight defensive fundamentals. They are not necessarily the only ones and this is not necessarily the only way defensive fundamentals could be listed. Still, we are going to approach them in a positive manner because no accepted list of defensive fundamentals can be found. If each basketball coach begins to think about breaking defensive play down into the various fundamentals, we will certainly come up with an accepted set of fundamentals more quickly.

Who Else Wants Secret Basketball Drills To Play Basketball Like Michael Jordan And Sink Ever Basket Like You Can’t Miss!?

Filed under: Basketball — Author @ 12:51 am

In 1891, Dr. James A. Naismith of Springfield College, Springfield, Massachusetts, devised a game to occupy the students in physical education classes during the winter months. He nailed a peach basket to the side of the balcony at each end of the gymnasium into which a ball was to be tossed. A janitor sat on a ladder to retrieve the ball from the basket after a player had made a goal. From this primitive beginning came the game now played by thousands of people throughout the world. In the United States basketball attracts more spectators than any other sport. Moreover, more athletes participate in the game of baskeball than in any other sport. Basket rings attached to a garage, tree or clothespole are not an uncommon sight.

In the early days of basketball the two forwards did most of the scoring. The guards very seldom took a shot, and the center was used mainly to get the tap on center jumps after each field goal. In 1937 when the center jump was abolished by the high school, college and professional associations, the nature of the game changed entirely.

The use of the fast break and the development of one-hand shots, particularly the jump shot, have made basketball a game requiring a degree of skill unknown in its early days. In a single game today individual players often score as many points as an entire team did before the center jump was abolished.

Follow These Basketball Dills And Sink Baskets Like You Can’t Miss!

Filed under: Basketball, Sports — Author @ 11:58 am

I could probably summarize this into two very concise statements. These would be: basketball is my life, and I teach our boys to win. To leave these statements as they are would probably arouse a lot of comment; I will elaborate a bit, and arouse more comment.

Success doesn’t come easy, and never without hard work. A basketball coach, to be successful, must be entirely unselfish in his devotion of time and energy to his job. During an average basketball season, I spend at least four hours a day in preparing for practice, and the actual practice sessions. I watch our future opponents play at every opportunity, and then I try to fit in a few other high school or college games in which I have a special interest. This does not lend itself to a normal home life during the basketball season, but I am fortunate in having a wonderful wife, who understands and shares my feeling for my job, and this makes it possible to maintain a happy home life.

I teach my boys to WIN. My feeling is, that if you do anything else, you are teaching them the wrong thing. I sometimes facetiously tell the boys that “winning isn’t the important thing, it’s the ONLY thing.” Then I explain that I want them to exhaust every means they have available to win, as long as it stays within the realm of the rules, and fair play. Then, if they lose, let it hurt a little, and vow, that next time perhaps the tables can be turned, and they will emerge victorious. I don’t intend to develop poor losers, but I do want to develop hard losers. There is a tremendous difference in the two.

The Legacy of Michael Jordan

Filed under: Amateur Sports, Basketball, Extreme Sports, Professional Sports — Author @ 9:04 am

Although he has been retired for several years now, Michael Jordan is still widely regarded as the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. His influence was felt not only in the way the game was played, but also in how it was perceived around the world. Ultimately, his excellence at his sport was instrumental in catapulting the popularity of basketball and the National Basketball Association all over the world during the eighties and nineties. Beyond all this, Jordan was also a marketing force and was hands-down the most successfully marketed athlete of his generation and, possibly, all time. In 1999, Jordan was named by ESPN as “the greatest athlete of the 20th century.?

Jordan retired from the NBA after 15 seasons, during which he established a number of prestigious records. His 30.12 points per game average is the highest ever in NBA history. He also won six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls and was the MVP of the NBA Finals every time they claimed the championship. In addition, Jordan has been the NBA’s leading scorer for 10 straight seasons and was the league’s Most Valuable Player five times.

Basketball System

Filed under: Basketball, Sports — Author @ 8:46 pm

I can’t believe we have a new basketball system! We have been praying so hard for a new system, as we have been playing on an old hoop without a net for quite a while now.
Our old basketball hoop was even angled downward. Add the fact that the backboard was lose. I cannot even maximize my practice shooting as I cannot even make a decent shot. How’s that for training and motivation?

Now that we have a basketball system, I am a very happy guy. We got this basketball system called the Pro Shot Dominator. It’s awesome!
This new basketball system is definitely up to standard. I can even dunk on this new Pro Shot Dominator without any hassles or without the fear of the system falling out, risking accident just like in our old basketball system.
Now, basketball has never been so fun and exciting.

All Sports World  Article

There are many families that spend a great deal of money on equipment every year. My family is one of them. It seems that each week there is another trip to the store to buy more accessories for one of my children. Between the children’s school activities and my husband’s love of the outdoors, we purchase equipment throughout the year.

The schools used to provide the equipment that the children needed. Budget cuts and decreased funding for sport now makes purchasing equipment the responsibility of each participant. This is difficult for some families on a tight budget and it may mean that their child will not participate in an activity because the family cannot afford to buy it. Most schools do have scholarships that help with the cost of the equipment, but this is often embarrassing for the student so they choose not to participate.

The Thirteen Rules of Basketball

Filed under: Basketball, College Sports, Sports — Author @ 1:34 am

James Naismith devised thirteen rules of basketball:

1. The ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands.

2. The ball may be batted in any direction with one or both hands, but never with the fist.

3. A player cannot run with the ball. The player must throw it from the spot on which he catches it, allowance to be made for a man running at good speed.

4. The ball must be held in or between the hands. The arms or body must not be used for holding it.

5. No shouldering, holding, pushing, striking or tripping in any way of an opponent.

The first infringement of this rule by any person shall count as a foul;

The second shall disqualify him until the next goal is made or, if there was evident intent to injure the person, for the whole of the game. No substitution shall be allowed.

Athletic Tape Helps Athletes

More about Athletic Tape

So how can athletic tape help athletes? Not with serious, chronic injuries but with smaller injuries which won’t end an athletic career but may make it more uncomfortable for a time. Sore ankles, small cases of tendonitis, or minor strains or sprains can all be supported by appropriate wrappings with athletic tape. When taping an injury it’s important to give the injured area, be it an ankle, elbow, or limb, with enough tape to adequately support the area and take stress off the injury. Be sure to avoid wrapping the tape too tight, as this can cut down on circulation to the injured area and lengthen the amount of time the injury needs to heal.
