Smart textiles with smart performance are becoming important to our daily life. There are many types of properties and applications of nanoscale materials used to improve textile performance. The different types of nano finishes yielded multifunctional properties like stain resistance, antimicrobial, controlled hydrophilicity / hydrophobicity, antistatic, UV protective, wrinkle resistant, shrink proof abilities and fabrics with smart flexible electronics. In this review, the details aspects of different types of smart textiles are discussed with special applications in physical education and sports. The review contains elaborate reports on various kinds of metal and/or metal-inorganic oxides used to generate such multifunctional smart textiles. It is believed that this review would be useful to further development of smart textiles for various applications including physiology, physical education and sports.
