Abstract:This study investigates the relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) and eating behaviors among male college students at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Using the Adult Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (AEBQ) and the Socioeconomic Scale (SES), the research aims to elucidate how socio-economic factors influence eating patterns in this population. A total of 150 male students, aged 16 to 28, were assessed on key eating behaviors such as food enjoyment, emotional eating, food fussiness, food responsiveness, and slowness in eating. The Kruskal-Wallis’s test was employed to compare these behaviors across different SES groups. Results revealed that while SES significantly influenced slowness in eating, other eating behaviors such as food enjoyment and emotional eating did not show significant differences across SES groups. The findings suggest that while certain eating behaviors are affected by socioeconomic factors, overall eating patterns among male college students are shaped by a complex interplay of various influences beyond SES. These insights are critical for developing effective nutritional interventions and promoting health equity among college students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
