Abstract:
This study examines the foot morphological indices of to understand the relationship between foot structure and athletic performance. Foot morphology, critical for stability, agility, and overall athletic functionality, can significantly influence an athlete's performance and susceptibility to injuries. Three key indices i.e. Chippaux-Smirak Index (CSI) and Staheli Index (SI) were analyzed to profile the foot structures of these athletes. A total of 52 sportspersons, including participants from various sports such as athletics, basketball, football, and volleyball, were selected for this study. Footprints were obtained using a standardized ink method, and measurements were taken to calculate the CSI and SI. Results indicated that majority of athletes exhibited a normal arch, except very few demonstrated either high or low arches, potentially predisposing them to specific injuries. These findings underscore the importance of individualized foot assessments for sportspersons, which can inform tailored interventions such as orthotic support and customized training regimens to enhance performance and prevent injuries. This profile study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the importance of foot morphology in sports science. It emphasizes the need for regular foot evaluations in athletic training programs to optimize performance and minimize injury risks, promoting long-term athletic health and success.
