Impact of yoga asanas on HbA1c levels in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome
Author(s): Surya Jothi N, CV Jayanthy and S Natarajan
Abstract:
The aim of the research was to examine how yoga poses affected the HbA1c variable in females with PCOS. A prevalent endocrine condition that affects women of reproductive age, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is frequently linked to Insulin Resistance and high blood glucose levels. After being randomly chosen as participants, thirty middle-aged women who worked as private school teachers in Thanjavur were split equally into two groups: The experimental group and the control group. For twelve weeks, the experimental group followed a structured Yoga Asanas Program, whereas the control group did not partake in any particular wellness or physical training during that time. The dependent variable for evaluating metabolic improvements was HbA1c levels, which represent average blood glucose concentrations over the previous 12 weeks. All subjects had blood drawn both prior to and during the intervention. Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to statistically analyze the gathered data in order to assess the impact of the Yoga practices and account for any baseline disparities. The results showed that the experimental group, HbA1c levels were significantly lower than those of the control group. A twelve week Yoga Asana program was found to significantly improve glycemic regulation, indicating that yoga may be a useful non pharmacological strategy for managing metabolic abnormalities associated with PCOS.
