Effect of eight weeks aqua aerobic tabata training on long-distance freestyle performance among intercollegiate male swimmers
Author(s): Atul Sharma
Abstract:
This study examined the effects of a eight-week aqua aerobic Tabata training protocol on 1,500 m freestyle swimming performance in intercollegiate swimmers. Sixteen participants age d group 20 to 23 years were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n = 8), which performed Tabata-style aquatic interval training six days a week for eight weeks in addition to regular swim practice, and a control group (n = 8), which continued standard training only. Pre and post-intervention trials measured 1,500 m performance time and Maximum oxygen uptake (Vo2max). After eights weeks, the experimental group demonstrated a significant improvement in 1,500 m performance which is pre time (18.63±3.1 s, p<0.05), a greater decrease in post-trial (16.23±2.2s·, p<0.05) compared to controls group which is pre time (18.23±3.6 s, p<0.05), a decrease in post-trial (17.83±0.3 s·, p<0.05).Additionally, only the experimental group exhibited a significant increase in VO₂max (p<0.05). These results suggest that integrating Aqua Tabata training into swim training enhances aerobic endurance and performance in long-distance freestyle events.
