Women and sports in India

Abstract:
Women participation in India as professional and amateur fields of sports had geared up in present scenario. Female participation in sports increased in the 20th century. The participation and performance level also geared up and present sports of the country. The traditionally discouraged from participating in sports and physical activity due to social environment and lack of family support. Women’s sports have long acceptance throughout the world and shown new era of women participation in sports. An important fact about women’s sports is that women generally do not compete on equal terms against men. Now a day’s in sports Indian women have made remarkable stride in the world. This was happen because of policy initiatives, education for all, sports coaching, sports for all, enhanced facilities, sports infrastructure, changing perceptions that empowering participation of women in sports. At last we concluded by necessity of sustained policy intervention, education and community support to geared the participation. Sports have empowered the future generations of women. It is systematic approach which needs to develop more seriously in India.
