Abstract:Aggression is a complex behavior that can manifest physically, verbally, or indirectly. While often viewed negatively, it may also play a motivational role in enhancing athletic performance. In sports, aggression is typically defined as behavior aimed at dominating or intimidating opponents and may include actions like pushing, shouting, or verbal taunting. Although some level of aggression is intrinsic to competition, excessive aggression can lead to penalties or injury.
This study compares aggression levels among athletes engaged in individual and team sports. A total of 160 athletes from IIT Palakkad participated in the research and completed the R.L. Bharadwaj Aggression Scale, which assesses physical, verbal, and indirect aggression. Results indicated no statistically significant difference in aggression levels between individual and team sports players, suggesting that sport type alone does not significantly influence aggressive tendencies.
