Effect of yoga on aging
Author(s): Aloke Sen Barman
Abstract:
Aging is the normal process of growing older, marked by a slow deterioration of mental and physical abilities, a higher chance of illness, and ultimately, death. Aging is regulated by a number of factors, including genomic instability, telomere dysfunction, epigenetic changes, loss of orthostasis, autophagy impairment, mitochondrial malfunction, cellular senescence, stem cell fatigue, altered intercellular communication, and dysregulated nutrition sensing. The main objective of this study was to do a systematic review to examined the effects of yoga intervention on aging. Data was collected from PubMed, Web of Science, and J-store. Randomized controlled trials published in English from the inception of the database until 31st October, 2025, were included. Only yoga as intervention were included in the study. It may be concluded that yoga developed interaction of molecular and cellular processes, including as cellular senescence, telomere attrition, mitochondrial failure, DNA damage, and epigenetic changes which may elicited development of aging.
