Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigation of mental toughness in relation to ranking point in badminton singles at different levels of achievement. The subjects selected for this study were 30 male singles badminton players from senior national tournament held at Bangalore from 17^th to 25^th Jan 2012 and junior 60 boys under 17 & 19 national tournament held at Jaipur 4^th to 12^th 2012. Criterion measures chosen for the study were the scores obtained in the mental toughness questionnaire prepared by Alan Goldberg has sixty items, which has four categories namely: handling pressure (20 questions), concentration (17 questions), mental rebounding (14 questions) and winning attitude (9 questions). Mental toughness scores of the badminton players at different levels of achievement were compared by using One-way analysis of variance (F-ratio). Relationship between mental toughness scores and the ranking points of the badminton players at different levels of achievements were computed by using Product Moment Correlation. Mean scores on mental toughness and its variables i.e. Handling Pressure, Concentration and Mental Rebounding & winners attitude of senior male and junior under 17 & 19 boys badminton players of National level were found to be similar. There were no significant differences found between senior male and junior under 17 & 19 boys, and also there were no significant between mental toughness and ranking points of senior male and junior under 17 & 19 boys and mental toughness and senior male and junior under 17 & 19 boys badminton players at different levels of achievements.
